Mashomack Preserve covers almost a third of picturesque Shelter Island. There are miles of beautiful hiking trails and creeks and beautiful shorelines that can be explored on kayak tours. Great nature center and short walking trail with fun displays. Good calendar of events. Absolutely worth a visit.

A very nice preserve with several trails to hike from 1.5 miles to over 11! Well maintained and provide a diverse view of the wildlife on Shelter Island. A good workout due to the hills but definitely worth it!

What a wonderful hike me and my wife had today. Even picnicked when we entered the first trail(yellow). If you're in the area do go. You won't be disappointed.

The preserve has a handful of clearly marked hikes, ranging from an hour to about five hours. We were there recently in the early fall, and it was just so pretty. We walked through woods, along the coastline, and through a magnificent meadow. A new feature for children: a short hike has pages from a lovely picture book about a young fox named Fletcher and his favorite tree in autumn.
