“Very good Italian food”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

I've been to Johnny's twice for lunch. Both times it was very good, albeit a limited menu. We decided to try it for dinner.
It was a busy Friday night (event at the Theater across the street). We sa at the bar while waiting for the rest of our party. After some confusion regarding the number in our party, we were seated. The service is excellent. Our waiter was attentive, but not intrusive. We didn't feel rushed at all, but it was after 7 pm. Menu consists of both Italian staples (parmigianas) and other choices. Prices are reasonable for both food and drinks. Our only issue is that they were out of some things due to the early theater crowd. So, after ordering one of the specials, our waiter had to come back to explain that it was sold out. He was very apologetic.
Overall, the food is very good, service is excellent and prices are reasonable. It doesn't have a "wow" factor, but it is exactly what it presents itself to be - a good Italian restaurant.

“Friendly service, excellent food”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

We had a 100% excellent experience at Johnny's on a recent trip to Schenectady. Our waitress (Rachel) was so charming and genuinely friendly. The dinners were delicious and plentiful. The service pace is leisurely, but friends who also dined there informed their server that they were headed to the movies and were served quickly and in plenty of time. A complaint? They are not open on Sunday nights, otherwise we would have visited for a second meal! The next time I find myself in Schenectady, we;ll head back to Johnny's!

“Really good Italian food.”
Reviewed July 13, 2013 via mobile

This was our first visit to Johnny's and we were not sure what to expect. We had reservations (recommended for Fri and Sat night). We had a great table in the back. Overall nice atmosphere with a good mix of families, couples, and groups out to eat. It was a little noisy but it was packed. The calamari was awesome. We had lasagne and eggplant rollitini which was so good, had to skip dessert but the dessert selection looked really good as well. Will definitely be back.

“A Little Disappointed...”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Our first foray to Johnny's was on an evening that Proctors had a musical scheduled - so it was crowded. We had 6 p.m. reservations for an 8 p.m. show (literally a 3 minute walk to the theater).
In a nutshell:
It's a little noisy - so if you can, try to get a table up against the wall
it's a little packed too tightly - I literally bumped elbows with the guy at the table next to ours several times!
The pasta is good - and cooked perfectly.
The Shrimp Scampi is so heavy on the lemon it's pucker worthy.
The coffee is excellent
The desserts are from Villa Italia - right down the street - although for some reason it took 15 minutes for a pastry to appear after ordering it.
That said it's a welcome addition to downtown Sch'dy - good food that doesn't cater to the bar crowd.

“A good lunch if you have a lot of time”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Even though we were greeted and seated immediately upon walking in the door, we sat waiting at our table for a good 15 minutes without even being acknowledged by a server. Around the 20 minute mark an exasperated but friendly server asked us if we'd been taken care of yet, and supposedly took over our table for the girl who couldn't seem to get to us. They didn't seem busy but for a new place, I figured I'd let that slide. The choices for lunch weren't exhaustive but this is a good thing, that should keep the kitchen more efficient right? I guess not because our food wasn't served for another half hour or so. I had a salad I added steak to which was pretty good but didn't blow me away. The other person I was with had a sandwich which looked really delicious, on good ciabatta bread with homemade fry/chip things. Those were good too but very salty.

The prices weren't too cheap or too high. Its just the wait that would cause me not to want to return, because an hour and a half is a bit long for lunch.
