Description: In 2009 the Van Dyck reopened under new owners, the McDonald Family, giving this historic venue new life. In 2011, the McDonald's again revitalized the Van Dyck by getting the formerly used brewery on premise functioning once more, under the name, the Mad Jack Brewing Company. Fresh brews are made weekly, and can be seen through the open glass brewhouse behind the restaurant. Sampler, growlers and kegs are available for purchase. Come in and enjoy the freshest brews in the most historic setting in the city.

One of the truly outstanding restaurants in Schenectady. Great beers, great food, great service. Eating inside or out are both special.

Recently dined here with colleagues and had a great experience. Service was fast and very friendly (don't let the bad reviews dissuade you). The brew selection was great and the hefewessien was awesome. The pale ale got high matks as well. Food was delivered in a reasonable time and was very good. The reviews of the menu being limited and mostly bar food is correct; however, the food is well above average for a pub. I went with the Western Burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only downside that I could see was that it was a bit loud due to the crowd. All in all a great experience. I would highly recommend.

The Van Dyck has some of the best local micro brew beer, I have had in a long time. Nice selection, with a great atmosphere. The food is great, and it is a real nice place ***** 5 Star for me.

Saturday night reservation for 6. Seated at a table in the bar which is a long way from the dining room and seemed like a bit of an afterthought, servicewise. The house brewed beers received high marks, especially the Belgain White. Wines by the glass serviceable for this type of place. Those who strayed away from the brew pub basics, salmon and the pork chop, special were not all that impressed. Pizza with prosciutto and aruga was very good. Same for fish and chips. Oscar's Smokehouse brats were very tasty, but the accompanying sauerkraut had a mettalic taste. Salads received high marks. A good, not great, place to meet with friends on a busy Saturday night.
