During our recent visit to New York my wife and I joined our daughter and her family for dinner at Maya Cocina in Scarsdale. We had dined there years ago when it was called Casa Maya, and nothing about the room has changed. It is a comfortable dining room decorated in a classic Mexican style, from the heavy wooden furniture and sombreros hanging from the walls to the singer/guitarist who works the room. On this Sunday evening business was light and service was pretty attentive. Our party of seven ordered a variety of items including chicken taco, bean burritos, baby back ribs, shrimp and rice, grilled chicken and paella containing huge clams. All the dishes were very tasty and the portions were very respectable. We finished the meal by sharing a plate of Bananas Foster and a plate of dessert tacos. Both delicious. The only negative occurred when we asked for serving spoons to dish out the dessert. They were never brought to the table and we made due with our regular silverware. Other than that, we had a pretty good dining experience.
