A short flat half mile walk to a great view of the river. There are several stops along the way for additional views. Check the tide schedules to make sure you have a dry walk.

My family decided to take the trek out to the lighthouse the second morning of our visit. We get there early, just after breakfast and it was quiet/peaceful. The trails were easy to navigate. Our 4 year old enjoyed the walking bridges especially. The lighthouse was beautiful, nice views of the river.

It is a short and easy walk to the Lighthouse on a dirt/sand/wooden path past flowers, reeds, wading birds, cattails, tidal wetlands, mudflats, and sitting areas. Best to check the tide chart at the entrance gate to the trail; at low tide, you can walk right up to the Lighthouse. At mid-tide, you will have to wade through a bit of water to do so; at high tide...well, I'm not sure of that. Tours inside are available only on certain days and times; there is also a bed & breakfast here that has a year-long waiting list because it is so unique and so small. Picnic tables on old, marine wood are around the base of the Lighthouse and the very noisy and happy people who were picnicking and drinking lots of beer, etc. were pretty distracting. Still, there is a sense of history, charm and beautiful light here as the sun goes down on the western edge of the Hudson River.

We rode our bikes around the area and stumbled upon this path. It is better for walking, but we are lazy. Had to get off the bikes a few times because of the soft sand, but well worth the trip.

Wonderful setting, views of the Hudson and a neighborly nesting bald eagle. Historical lighthouse that doubles as a bed and breakfast. The rooms are inviting, causally furnished.
