My wife and I stayed here for a night for the first time last weekend on a long weekend trip to the area. The previous 2 nights, we stayed elsewhere, at a basic motel and decided to treat ourselves for the last (Sun.) night. I have to say, the main criticism is due to the high prices, which brings with it greater expectations. Contrary to others, we had no problem with the staff at all. The rooms are impeccably furnished and decorated and the bed was extremely comfortable.
At the rate of $275/night, however, a Jacuzzi tub would have been in order. Instead, there is not even a bathtub, only a shower. So much for taking a soaking. And there is no spa to go to.
Also, my wife and I both thought that the food at the tavern was just OK, nothing to rave about. And for some reason, there was cold air blowing out of vents even though the dining room was icy cold!

There was a noisy ice making machine outside of our room and when we went down for the included bkfst. in the morning, it was jammed and there was no place to sit.

In spite of these minor irritations, we would still recommend this hotel. Just know that it is not perfect and not a bargain.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms near the ice machine.

Friendly staff, beautiful view of the falls, quite nice room. But the price, relative to what you get, is simply exorbitant. This became really apparent when we asked if we might check in an hour early because we had a tight schedule and needed to get ready in a hurry upon arrival so that we could get to a wedding. The answer: "If there is a room available, yes. If not, you can store your bags." Well, yeah, I get that from a Motel 6. If I'm paying several hundred dollars a night I expect staff to be a little more forthcoming. . . if they can't accommodate my request, try to problem-solve a little to help me out. That, coupled with a meager continental breakfast left me sure I won't be back.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Diamond Mills and would highly recommend to anyone. Tavern food is delicious, the views from our beautifully decorated room was nothing less than awesome and the front desk person, Ms. Kennedy could not have been a better greeter or hands on concierge helping us with everything local. You can't go wrong here!

Room Tip: ask for Cate Kennedy and nothing will go wrong

Brides Beware!

We got married here in the summer of 2013. Our first impression of the property was that it was beautiful and very unique. We loved the ambiance of the hotel, restaurant, and tavern and could picture ourselves getting married there. Since booking the venue, we had dinner in the restaurant on two different occasions and really enjoyed the food and drinks.

We are writing this letter to inform you of some aspects of our wedding which fell below our expectations.

Failure to Book our Room Correctly:
• We booked the Tower Suite for Friday and Saturday through Gina Hornbeck earlier this year. Saturday night was included with the wedding and Friday night was reserved at a pre-determined rate. Our credit card was charged prior to our stay.

• Upon our arrival at Diamond Mills (the day before our wedding), the desk staff printed up a one-page document showing that we owed a balance of over $500.00 on the room. They insisted we sign the document, even after we explained that this must be a mistake. It was obvious that no note had been made about our prior arrangement or that we were getting married there the next day.

• They again asked us to sign the document. We explained that we had made arrangements with the manager and waited while they located her and brought her to the front desk. This was eventually resolved.

Unexpected Tent Fee:
• To our knowledge the tent was an included amenity. We were told we had to decide whether we required before the wedding and that we must make a choice three days prior to the event.

• We were never informed (via a written contract or verbally) that the tent was an extra fee.

• We were presented with a bill for $1,000.00 for the tent. We then had to break from our guests and privately talk to their event planner about this unexpected cost, which we were not prepared to pay. It took time away from our guests and brought unnecessary stress and tension to the evening.

Rooms Not Serviced/Cleaned:
• Some of our guests stayed both Friday and Saturday nights. Several of those who stayed both nights informed us that they returned to their rooms Saturday night to find that they hadn’t been serviced/cleaned.

Lack Of/Incorrect Hors d’oeuvres:
• We did a tasting in May before the wedding and selected six hors d’oeuvres for our cocktail hour. It become clear within 30 minutes of cocktail hour that the requested hors d’ouvres were not all present. In addition, of the six we requested, some had been modified. Some were alternative hors d’oeuvres, which we had not selected or tasted.

• These alternate hors d’ouvres started to show up around 30 minutes in to cocktail hour. They were all fried. I cannot eat fried food, that is why we specifically selected the items we did.

• It was also apparent that the hors d’ouvres coming out which we had not chosen were of a lesser quality in ingredients and preparation.

• There were many discrepancies with the food. For a hotel that boasts such culinary prowess one would expect their customers to pay attention to these details.

• We confronted their event planner about this and she told us that the chef was ‘experimenting’. Other employees told us that the chef was ‘flexing his culinary muscle’. Another said they had run out of the hors d’ouvres we selected. We had 100 people in a venue that can accommodate 400. When planned and executed correctly, this should never occur. Your establishment should know how many to prepare in advance so that you do not run out.

• Our contract stipulated that a “Tuscan Table” of meat, cheese and fruit would be available during the “Reception”. This was not present.

• Only after persistent requests was cheese alone brought out for the last 15 minutes of cocktail hour.

Incorrectly Prepared Wedding Cake:
• We specified to their pastry chef the two types of cake we wanted

• Each type of cake was to have its own filling combination

• Both cake combinations were done incorrectly. Some did not have filling at all and their chef simply used the butter cream as filling instead.

• The vanilla cake was exceptionally dry - an amateur mistake for a pastry chef.

Due to the nature and consistency of these errors, it is our belief that this alludes to a strategic approach to cutting costs by excluding elements that were in our contract and delivering less than adequate products and service.

Attention to detail is what we expect from a venue such as the Diamond Mills Hotel.
For an upscale boutique hotel that puts such an emphasis on its service and high-end food, these elements are the last features we thought we would be writing about.

Diamond Mills is an excellent property. Details below:

Positives:
- Right next to a waterfall - beautiful & calming
- Quiet & peaceful
- Luxurious room (think heated bathroom floors!)
- Lovely Balcony overlooking the waterfall
- Great location to explore the Catskills area & Hudson Valley
- 10 min walk or 2 min drive to the high street with lots of shops & restaurants

Negatives:
- None really!

Excellent place, and I would highly recommend it. We went there after suffering no electricity and no water in our downtown NYC apartment during Hurricane Sandy. This was heaven!

Room Tip: All rooms have waterfall views - you can't go wrong!
