Stayed at the Gideon this past Sunday for our anniversary weekend. We decided to do the spa package that included dinner and breakfast with a massage and bath at the Roosevelt fpr a great savings! The staff was awesome at the front desk the first rep took pictures of my husband and I by the fireplace and the second rep went into the gift shop for me to purchase a tshirt (was leaving before shop was going to open). Also with the package we received a deluxe room but automatically received an upgrade of a porch room which was really cool. Though they are very limited on what they can do with their hotel they still have been able to update all the important things customers want (like a comfy bed & bathroom). The food at Putnam's were very good even though there were a few things that they could have done better. All in all it was an awesome stay and can not wait to come back in the future!

If you haven't been to the Gideon Putnam in awhile you need to return. This historic hotel has had some major changes in the last year and the results are impressive. I have been coming to the hotel for years so the transformation is appreciated. The changes in the restaurant are amazing and the new bar area which opens to the patio is beautiful. The rooms are clean and baths have been updated without losing their original charm. This is a historic hotel, so if you're looking for "brand new' or "glass and chrome" you won't find it here. What you will find is a peaceful and quiet setting with good food and a staff that treats you like royalty while you're there.

I am sure in its day the Gideon Putnam was a grand hotel, but not now. The setting is spectacular and the staff is warm and welcoming. The courtesy shuttle to and from the track and downtown was convenient. The restaurant was average at best.
I was very disappointed with the rooms. We paid 500.00 per night for a "cottage suite". The amenities for the price were not worth it AT ALL. Everything smelled musty and old. Our room smelled like an old dog - which is possible because they allow animals at the hotel. The so called fitness room smelled like an old shoe.

Spent a few days here during the racing season with my adult daughter. The hotel is situated in beautiful Saratoga Springs State Park. The over all feeling that the hotel exudes is "tired". We were disappointed as we thought we were staying at the best place in Saratoga. Not worth the inflated price.

Based on the advertisements, I expected more. No refrigerator in the room. Window A/C wasn't efficient. Had to have toilet repaired twice during a two-night stay. Location is wonderful and you can see that this hotel has had greater days.

Very disappointing for the price. Had a suite for over $400 a night. IT HAD A WINDOW AC UNIT. Not only a window unit but a very old unit. I know they try to keep the historical value, but you can be historical and have central air. Front desk was very non-friendly to be nice. Room wasn't ready till exactly 4:00 and the place was empty. Bathroom looks like an asylum. Tub was maybe 3 feet long and very uncomfortable.
Pro's-
Bartender Rick is a great guy and the restaurant is good
Bed is comfortable
Grounds are beautiful

BUT it is not at all worth the money

I checked in for a weekend away with my husband and was sorely disappointed. This hotel's website leads you to believe you are staying somewhere luxurious, this place does in no way fit the bill. At 365.00 a night one should have a fan in their bathroom. When we checked in we where given a room with two double beds they did kindly put us into a Queen room on the 5th floor. The room was very small and unimpressive for the price. Wall paint on the ceiling a window air conditioner (the only window in the room), Peeling ceiling in the bathroom spiders in the room (just Daddy long legs but really). Again all these things may seem petty, but I expected a 4 star hotel. This was anything but. If the rates where lower than I would be all for you get what you pay for....The only thing 4 star was the young man at the front desk "Matt" who was as accommodating as anyone could be with my very legitimate gripes P.S. There is one elevator for the entire hotel. You can wait quite awhile at either end....
