Needed a place that served very basic pizza to bring to my sister-in-law's house in Saratoga. Pope's was the closest to our final destination so we called ahead and arranged for two large pizzas to be ready for pick-up by the time we drove from Clifton Park.
One large Cheese Pizza ($9) and a large Cheese Pizza with mushrooms, sausage and onions ($13.50) sounded like the best value we've had ordering pizza in a good number of years. Large was quite large, maybe 18-20 inches in diameter.
The pizzas were still warm as we began to serve the very, VERY large slices. They are a reasonably thin crust with a thick edge. Mushrooms are canned, and sausage is crumbled; a fair amount of sauce and cheese. Overall, flavors are just OK. The crust at its edges quickly gets very chewy as the pizza cools. My wife said the leftover slice she tried a few hours later that night was almost like eating a cracker when she got to the crust's edge. I'm hoping that if we need to bring another simple, basic pizza to my sister-in-law's in the future we'll try someplace different and better.
