I had dinner here with four friends who had come to town for our college reunion. I live in NYC and two of friends from Boston and one works in a restaurant. We were all blown away by our meals. the food was delicious and the service excellent. The assistance with the wine list was right on the mark. The food was served in an unrushed manner. The dessert list is short but all three we tried were winners. We had a great meal and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. We will be back.

Located just off Broadway where 28 Tables once was, Javier's describes itself as "a Seafood Restaurant with a Flare of Latino Flavor." We went to celebrate a birthday, because we had a discount certificate, and to try it out. The menu items are unusual, with many Latin American ingredients, but the server was very good about explaining things to us. And everything we ordered was excellent as were the rolls made from tapioca flour. We shared a pear salad and had Arctic char and scallops as our entrees. They were superb. For dessert we shared a lava cake, which was served with a candle and free (we had mentioned the birthday some time in the evening). Service was top-notch. It is on the expensive side. Without our certificate, our meals would have been about $100, and that was with one appetizer and free dessert. But it did include a glass of wine. Nevertheless, for a special occasion or treat, Javier's is hard to beat.

We just dined here last Friday night to celebrate out 6 month wedding anniversary. I selected Javier's so we could celebrate where we had our wedding. The staff welcomed us as if we were the king and queen of Javier's. They made our entire night very special before we even factor in the off the hook food. Javier's is a class act and is a great place for foodies to dine.

4 of us dined there last night after the Valentine's Day rush and had a fun time and great meal. The lamb and lobster tail that my wife had was delicious. My roasted monkfish was nicely prepared and a delight. Our friend started his meal with the bean soup and he raved about it. Our server was very helpful with a suggestion for a bottle of wine. We can be pretty picky about our restaurants.....we will definitely go back to Javier's......

I Had the opportunity to be invited to a tasting under the new chef, Eric Sell, at Javier's the other evening. I think it is fair to say that the quality of the food will continue at a level similar to when Brian Bowden was cooking. The items we had were not anything that was on the current (and maybe changing?) menu, but it did show the new chef's ability to be innovative. I would not be surprised to see some of our dishes added to an updated menu, or at least become part of a rotation of specials offered.

Our tasting menu consisted of:
- Chorizo and Lobster w/ pickled fennel, and hollandaise.
- Tuna Crudo w/ capers, olive puree, and shiso pickled jalapeno.
- Poached Pear Salad w/ frisee, goat cheese fondue, lardon, and mint vinaigrette.
- Roasted Monkfish w/ sauce Caruso.
- Argentinian (sic.) Churrasco - wagyu skirt steak w/ avocado mousse, and horseradish crema.
- A trio of desserts.

In these dishes I especially enjoyed the flavor of the chorizo, the freshness of the super-thin slices of tuna, the goat cheese fondue with the lardon and mint vinaigrette, the flavor of the wagyu steak, and the dessert cake that had honey on it.

The same impeccable service was provided along with a sincere warmth from Javier himself. Without seeming pretentious, staff served ladies first, provided fresh silverware with each course, refolded napkins when guests temporarily left their table, and the head server provided an explanation of each dish as it was brought to our table.

One note of caution, when the upstairs dining room is full, there were about 60 people there on this night, the din from the conversation is very loud. We're looking forward to returning on a more quiet night to try items off the menu.
