Owner description: This famed 350-acre racetrack features thoroughbred horseracing during its six-week season from late July through early September. Though one of the sport's premier events, the races often take second place to people-watching.

“Glorious place to take in a day of races”

The Saratoga Race Course is a wonderful mix of old-world horseracing charm and classic state fair. Reserve a table at one of the trackside restaurants with a group to really get the most out of a day's worth of races.

“Among the greatest sporting venues on the planet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

Saratoga Race Course is a place that is difficult to review, perhaps because the experience is so diverse it's hard to capsulize.
For fans of thoroughbred racing or lovers of horses of any kind, it offers the highest level of racing anywhere on the continent and perhaps the entire world. The greatest champions of the sport have run here and on any given day, you may see a current champion or a young horse who will soon make history. The horses and the racing are unequaled anywhere.
For those who may only have a slight interest in horses or gambling, the facility offers much more. The grounds and structures possess a bucolic beauty and rich history. Walking the grounds of the track or the adjacent training facilities is an experience in itself.
Racetracks have a history of being great places for people watching and Saratoga is as good as it gets for that pastime.
For anyone considering a first trip here, I'd suggest planning more than one day. The place is large and isn't a monolith so it takes some time to find a niche that best suits someone's tastes. A good start would be to visit on a weekday and to purchase reserved seats. That will give you a good and generally comfortable place to use a base while exploring the rest of the grounds and hopefully discovering some favorite spots for future days at the races here. The area behind the grandstand has a picnic atmosphere with food, displays, vendors and lots of green space to relax and enjoy the races on monitors. The grounds are not well marked which can be either frustrating for some or an adventure for most of us. Once you know the place, it's like home.
About 10 years ago, Sports Illustrated Magazine named Saratoga Racetrack as one of the 20 top sporting venues in the world. (I think it was among the top 10) The article is available on their website and worth a read for anyone who is either thinking about a visit or anyone who already cherishes this special place.

A post script... The entire facility has very poor accessibility for disabled patrons. I would recommend that a friend or family member do a recon trip before anyone with mobility issues or requires a wheelchair would consider coming here. The operators at the New York Racing Association have consistently neglected and dismissed this issue. I give this otherwise 5 star facility a near zero for this feature.

“Classic American Sport”

This is a great place to catch some great live races for an inexpensive price. I typically do not like watching any kind of races but this was extremely exciting live. As a novice, I bet a few dollars here and there and won every time. It was extremely exciting!

Saratoga is a place for families - affordable to expensive, the choice is yours. Large, easy to get lost, hard to not find something of interest, all framed by the greatest athletes in the world.
Where else can you walk next to a Hall of fame jocky who gets his own lane or path to walk.
