“Considering Special Event until I spoke with the staff”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

I was intending on hosting a special event here. I spoke with the banquet manager, who was helpful but certainly not warm. I was still going to book anyway. Then I missed a call from the restaurant and called back to book my event. The woman answering the phone on the Saturday afternoon was rude and unhelpful. "Well, did you listen to your message? Maybe that would help..." was her response to me, when I inquired about the missed call. I immediately decided I would NOT be booking any events there in the future.

From the moment we checked in until check out....everything was wonderful. The staff was efficient, warm and helpful, the facilities beautiful, and the food was delicious. Upon making the accommodations the staff was helpful. We arrived on a Thursday-our room was ready, clean and perfect for our needs. No thin walls here, we did here the steps of our grandchildren above us but that is normal in any Inn. Ordered room service for dinner it arrived warm and was very good. Wedding rehearsal was Friday-the coordinator, Becky, was spot on-the Courtyard room was beautiful. The wedding on Saturday was everything the Bride, Groom, parents, friends and family could have wanted. We all had a wonderful time..wanted for nothing..food delicious. Sunday we enjoyed 'The Empire" post wedding breakfast-again everything was super-food,facilities and staff. Thank you to Longfellows for making a very special day so wonderful and memorable for all of us.

Room Tip: Express to the staff what the purpose of your stay is and what your needs are. If you have special n...

Our wedding reception took place here when it was still The Canterbury restaurant. Back then there was no hotel but was renowned for it's food and uniqueness. We have been back many times over the years and continue to find the Romance Package to be exceptional. Again we were not disappointed. My wife and I elected to have our appetizers several hours before dinner at the bar during Happy Hour. The bruschetta and scallops wrapped in bacon were declicious, beer & wine for $3 a great price and Karen's bartending perfect. Dinner choices were stuffed chicken and shrimp & lobster scampi. Both were perfectly prepared and enjoyed. Todd provided great service and poured us a complimentary glass of champagne. Our room was loft style, which we have enjoyed several times in the past and remains one of our favorites. It's clean and comfortable with a sleeping area & tv upstairs. The only negative I can mention is the need to upgrade to flat screen tv's. They continue to provide the prvious generation larger screen tv. Our feeling is that when you spend good money to tay somewhere they should offer a television that's as good or better than what you have at home. There's plenty to do in the area as we ventured our way to the casino and visited shops downtown. We continue to highly suggest this package to anyone looking for a great time away from home.

I must agree with a reviewer who was there earlier in the summer...the walls are paper thin...as are the ceilings. It seemed the guy in the room above us kept pacing all night...and it kept me awake.

The property was pretty and clean...and in a convenient location...I thought the price was high for the accomodations. The bathrooms had recently been redone and were very nice but really needed more counter space. People behind the desk were nice...but for the price we paid...I felt their customer service skills were average.

Saratoga Race Track seems to grow in popularity every year. 2013 will mark the 50 th anniversary of the track. Finding accommodations in Saratoga in August is always a challenge from both a price and availability point of view. This is especially true for the weekend of the Historic Travers Stakes. Where prices are at their apex and availability it's Nader . Longfellow Hotel located on Union Avenue just a few miles from the Tracks front gate is a hidden gem . We were able to find roomy and well appointed Suites for less than $ 450,00 breakfast included. The hotel features a restaurant with an excellent menu and enough facilities to accommodate large groups. There are 50 well appointed rooms which includes 5 Suites and 45 good sized rooms that are priced on Travers weekend breakfast included for under $400.00. Yet another bonus is that Longfellows is just a hop skip and a jump from Saratoga National Golf Club whose restaurant Prime has become "The Destination " for Trainers,Jockeis ,Owners and racing fans after the Travers.

Room Tip: Suites are excellent value

It's a charming facility in a pretty part of town, stayed in the barn part, but the walls are paper thin. Could hear people in neighboring rooms like we were all staying together--one neighbor snored all night, wanted to slug him w/ my pillow (and thank god that's all that took place that night). The other neighbors talked all night.

The other issue started with a call to the front desk right after check in to let them know the bathroom sink clogs up and doesn't drain. Was told the maintenance man had gone for the day and I would have to wait til morning. I gave a little push back b/c we were checking out in the morn. They then was told me that I needed to wait for the manager to finish his conference call to see if he could get draino to solve the problem. All the while a "we'll take care of it as soon as possible" would have sufficed. There's absolutely no need to give me details about the maintenance worker's schedule and what the manager is doing, and anything about draino--all I care to hear is that you'll help me. Other room issues included a running toilet and faulty toilet paper holder that collapsed each time it was touched. So, wouldn't likely stay here again or recommend it to anyone. However, one thing I would recommend is the restaurant. Dinner was great and service was very good despite an extremely busy time.

All the while a "we'll take care of it as soon as possible" would have sufficed. You’re absolutely right. It really is a very short comment and does give you, the guest, the understanding that your concern will be looked into and an effort will be made to fix your concern. Apologizes I feel should be sincere and short also. I hope you'll accept our apology, and be assured; we'll have conversation today with all our staff about over doing the explanation and focusing more on the solution.
Respectfully,
Dan Fortier

We have stayed at Longfellow's many times, with positive ratings. This time we were quite disappointed. Our room was not ready when we arrived. We were told that they were, ..." very understaffed...it's not our fault, we don't have enough help." We were given a different room than the one we reserved. In that room, a possible cleaning product that was scented was so strong, we had to air it out. The bathroom door did not close properly, and the TV remote was difficult to use unless it was held it in a particular spot. Our shower did not drain proplerly as there was standing water. Also, we chose not to bring to the attention of the front desk the sheet condition, there were long black hairs in them. We went to bed at such a late hour that we just did not want to deal with it. At the Continental Breakfast, the room temperature was very warm, and when we mentioned to a server that the coffee had run out, she responded, "I'm going as fast as I can!"
It may seem as some of these issues are minor, however we have come to expect high standards at Longfellow's, and we certianly don't expect to be treated with unprofessionalism by the staff.
We wrote these concerns to the manager and received no response.
