“The Ultimate Adirondack Bed and Breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2011

On our trip to Saranac for the February Winter Festival, we stayed at this B&B in the Bear Room, a beautiful spacious room with gorgeous pine floors and walls, vaulted ceiling and the most comfortable beds ever. The warm glow from the gas fireplace made the evening so peaceful as we settled down with a few of the many great books provided. We used the TV only to listen for the weather forecast (snow), and chose to take a quiet walk outside - a winter hush over everything. Margie and Cliff were terrific hosts, preparing us a fabulous hot breakfast. We've been here before, staying in one of their rustic cabins during the spring for some fishing in Kiwassa Lake (which is noted for its bass and pike), but I think we're spoiled now staying in the B&B rooms. We'll definitely be back, maybe for a fall trip when the foliage is at its peak, and stay in the room with the balcony facing the lake. You'll love this place!

We spent a splendid week at Kiwassa Lake Bed and Breakfast. For tranquil days and nights by a quiet, small lake (with canoe and kayak access to wider waters) within a short drive of good restaurants in Lake Placid, this lakeshore B&B is a marvel. Our windows gave onto the lake, our room was large and comfortable, our bathroom downright luxurious. We enjoyed two amenities rare in B&Bs: good lighting, so one could actually read in one’s room in the evening, and sufficient closet space, with many hangers. Margie Cochran who runs the B&B is as lovely and helpful as can be. She also happens to make mouth-watering and varied breakfasts which she serves in a pleasant room with views of the lake. (Later in the day this room is the family’s living space.) There is an open porch, and there are also some comfortable Adirondack chairs at the waterside. Friends of the family come and use them once in a while, but mostly they are at the disposal of the guests. On the second floor where the guest rooms are, a small, well-equipped kitchen with fridge helps with one of life’s great problems: what to do about lunch when away from home. There is great boating and hiking (the excellent Mt. Ampersand is just minutes away) and Margie has plenty of books and pamphlets on Adirondack attractions. If you want an inn set in manicured lawns this is not the place. People live here. Don’t be surprised to see that materials for Mr. Cochran’s landscaping business are stored in sheds behind the house. But the woods all around come down to the lake, the family makes you feel at home, and the peace is heavenly.

We spent 2 nights at the B and B. Great hosts. Lovely room. Lots of information about the area. Liked the spot so much we brought a picnic dinner to the dock and swam and watched the sunset while being serenaded by loons.

We are kayakers and especially enjoy the Adirondacks.
On the occasion of our 40th anniversary we were looking a special place that would afford us easy paddeling access yet pamper us in a private and traditional Adirondack setting.
The Kiwassa Lake Bed & breakfast is just what we were looking for !
The Cochran's B & B provides clean and modern appointed rooms, tastefully decorated in a rustic setting that is geared toward your access and appreciation of the most beautiful Adirondack views from every window. We found many pleasant surprises during our stay which can only be found at a personally run bed and breakfast. From the cup of coffee awaiting us after an early morning paddle to a breakfast to die for and then fresh baked warm cookies greeting us following an afternoon paddle, we could not have asked for a more perfect choice.
All this and we were just a short drive from Saranac Lake and Lake Placid offering the best shopping and dining in the Adirondacks. We completely enjoyed our stay and have wonderful memories of how we marked our milestone anniversary and will not hesitate to return in the future.

We have visited Cliff and Margie at their cabins for years and most recently at the B&B. If you want to support a family business that offers the family touch, you can't go wrong here. The fishing is great and there is plenty to do locally when the rain comes in. I will always remember spending a wonderful December wedding anniversary at one of the cabins. Quiet walks in the gently falling snow followed by a hot cocoa by the fire is a great way to celebrate a life together.

We had a great stay with the Cochrans. The Inn was very clean and the rooms were just what you would want for a water side Adirondack experience. They have canoes and kayaks right out front with great mountain views around the corner from the dock. We are airplane people so we really liked the float plane as the centerpiece along the water front. The breakfast was the best!! We'll be back....floats or wheels!!

While location may be everything, the cabin's interior was not. The beds were ancient, and they felt like the coil springs were popping through. The smell of mold and mildew was awful in the bedrooms. The rest of the cabin was just passable, and the lighting was minimalistic. However, the view of the lake was aweswome, and the sunsets and loons spectacular. Replace the beds and pillows and everything would have been perfect!
