The entire experience was incredible. We were a bit lost and suddenly, our cell phone rang. It was Gene, the innkeeper. He was wondering where we were. We had told him we would be there at a specific time and we were late so he knew something was up. After giving us directions and getting us on the right path, he kept calling back to make sure we were ok. We arrived late and he helped us out with finding a place that delivered. The house was gorgeous. From the breakfast Carmela made (buy the recipe book, the peach toast is delicious!) to the dinner on Front Street we enjoyed with the other guests (Carmela and Gene joined us too, how lucky!), it was truly an unforgettable experience. We stayed in the Cathrine Caldwell room and it was so comfy. The tub was huge and very clean. The beds were warm and cozy. The house was set far enough away from the busy streets that you felt totally isolated yet you were less than five minutes from shopping, restaurants, bars, wineries. I would highly reccomend this B&B to anyone traveling in the area.

We have stayed in a number of B&Bs in the Northeast, and the Caldwell House is clearly among top 2 or 3 in our experience. The owners/hosts, Carmela and Gene, are more than usually friendly without being "in your face" as some innkeepers can be. They hit the right balance of being very helpful and easy to talk to and ask questions of. Gene is a fount of knowledge and information about points of interest and the history of them all along the Hudson River Valley, and he helped us greatly in planning our sightseeing. Our hosts were also very knowledgeable about restaurants in the region, and recommended excellent ones both evenings we were there. And Gene has done something we have never seen before in our travels: he has put together printed directions to almost anywhere you would want to go from the Caldwell House to visit, sightsee or eat. Also, not to be missed are Carmela's very tasty and expansive breakfasts which serve to encourage the conversation and camaraderie around the large dining table. We stayed in Catherine Caldwell Room which is just about a perfect B&B guest room in terms of a very comfortable four-poster bed and amenities like a whirlpool bathtub, a very nice shower with great water pressure, and a bidet. The house is old but beautifully renovated keeping its historical character. It is clearly updated with modern amenities, physically well maintained, and kept immaculately clean. It is simply a lovely, restful house to stay at with a tuned-in, caring couple running a first-rate B&B. Not to be missed is sitting on the large wrap-around porch just enjoying the country air. Finally, this gem is only an hour to an hour and a half north of New York City, depending one's starting point and traffic conditions. All in all, an excellent, first-rate visit. Thank you, Carmela and Gene.

What a wonderful experience!

From the moment I was greeted at the door by Gene, I knew that this place was special. Gene made me feel at ease the moment I arrived as he gave me a tour of the home that he and Carmela have so lovingly put together. While touring the house, Gene provided historical insight into the home and its ancestors, the Caldwell family, for which the house is named.

My room was comfortable and every detail was thoughtfully provided for- from the way the bath towels were arranged, to the chocolate truffles before turning in for a good night sleep. And oh so clean and spotless in every area!

Gene was a great help in providing me with suggestions and directions to nearby restaurants, places of interest and ways of navigating this part of the country. His directions were spot on and easy to follow (and he gave the directions to me already typed out!). Another example of such thoughtfulness and thoroughness that I experienced in their home.

After coming back from dinner, it was a wonderful treat to sit on the front porch, watching the fireflies play amongst the beautiful grounds that Caldwell House graces.

For another smile, add breakfast in the dining room! We started out with an excellent brewed cup of coffee to which was added a wonderful peach tart/pastry, superb french toast, and delightful scones. A memorable way to start any day!

Fond memories were made here and I look forward to a return visit for more wonderful experiences that bring a smile.

Spent our 24th wedding anniversary at Caldwell House and had the best time. Always wanted to try a B & B but thought it would be like we were invading someone's home. Wanted our own bathroom and surprised my husband with a hot tub in the room! Once checked in Gene gave us a tour of the 4 bedrooms showing us what he and his wife Carmela have done to make it so beautiful. He also explained how we get a key to the front door and our room so we can come and go all we want. He asked if 9:00 AM was alright for breakfast, helped us with dinner suggestions along with directions. Caldwell is near Woodbury Common Outlet Stores, West Point, and great dining on shores of Hudson Valley. Check their website for many more fun things to do. Gene has the best directions to anywhere, forget Map Quest! Carmela made a wonderful breakfast of orange french toast, homemade muffins with fresh fruit. We would recommend staying at Caldwell House B & B to anyone and hope to return someday ourselves! **** 4 Star B & B

Came across this wonderful B&B while looking for accommodation in the West Point area of New York.

Caldwell House is a quiet and elegant resting place with beautifully appointed rooms. Magnificent linens and hand made coverlets adorn each bed.

Our superb breakfast consisted of chocolate chip scones, individual ramekins of baked peaches and toast and panettone french toast topped with fresh, home grown organic blueberries and strawberries served alongside a khahlua dipping sauce.

Our hosts, Gene and Carmela couldn't have been more gracious. Our only regret ~ we weren't there long enough!

We stayed here for four nights in October 2004 and enjoyed every aspect of our visit.

The innkeepers, Gene and Carmela, were really welcoming and helpful. They were not only happy to recommend places to eat, visit, hike and shop but also printed out directions for us, dug out rail timetables and generally did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The food was great. We had delicious fresh-cooked breakfast every day, and they even gave us a little pack of home-baked cookies and muffins for the journey when we left.

The house itself is very pretty (it's over 200 years old) and has been well looked-after. The good thing is that it it feels like a home rather than a museum. Our room was cosy, comfortable and clean with a good en-suite bathroom.

If you do stay here, check out Joey's Cafe in Washingtonville (5 mins drive away). We had some excellent home-cooked organic food there, and again the staff (in particular, Joey the proprietor) and customers were really friendly and welcoming.

Definitely recommended.
