“Very good old school power steak house experience”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Had dinner here during a recent business trip. Sat solo at the bar.

Heard good things about the restaurant but almost missed the place walking through town as the sign seemed a little non-descript, at least to my eyes as a newcomer.

Excellent and efficient service at the bar. Not overly friendly, but very professional. Decent selection of beer and wine. Cocktails not overly inventive or modern, more on the classic side. Nice, cozy fireplace just off the bar.

Atmoshpere is typical high-end steakhouse. Dark, rich mahogany library feel. Seemed to be a very affluent country-club clientele. Much the power-player scene. Lots of talk of summering on the Vineyard, etc.

Had a pre fixe menu which seemed to be a good deal. Variety on the menu was a little lacking, and not overly inventive. Even so, all the standards were there.

The signature salad was not out of the ordinary, yet tasted very nice, especially with the accompanying side of gorgonzola. The food came out very hot and fresh. Portions were adequate, but not overwhelming. Didn't get any bread, so can't comment on that. Many steakhouses I've been to have "interesting" selections of bread, either warm, or onion crusted, or an assortment of breads. Don't know the deal here.

Overall, if you're looking for the usual, classic, old-school "power steakhouse" feel, you won't be disappointed. But don't expect anything contemporary.

“Best Steak Housethis Side of the City”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Sister of the old favorite of the same side in the theatre district, here you will find great steaks in a great old building.
Try and get a booth on the lowere level so you can watch the bar scene.
Unlike the chains, you feel like the staff cares and that this is a place people come regularly, not an over priced place for "special events"

“Good steak”

The steaks are good. The bar is fine. The service is not good. The prices are high. There are other better steak places around.

“"Old school" Steakhouse”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

A steak house is a steak house....unless it's F&J's! Great food (with offerings other than meat), classic atmosphere and very attentive service. Not inexpensive but still came away feeling it was a good value. Highly recommend. Very good wine list as well.

“Great steaks, service excellent”
Reviewed July 17, 2012 via mobile

Ate here tonight as part of a large group and cannot fault the service or food, I had lobster ravioli and a filet mignon and both were absolute perfection. The attentiveness of the staff was excellent throughout the evening and despite having 30 people to serve the food all came out together and everyone had a good evening

There is no doubt the price is at the higher end of the spectrum but for the service and quality of the food I don't think you could complain
