“A neighborhood gem”

A neighborhood staple. Lunch, dinner, special event or weeknight chance to eat out. You'll always get a good meal.

“Nothing special...”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

After numerous meals here I would say that nothing really makes this long time local haunt stand out among the plethora of restaurants in the area. The menu has adequate variety, but lacks a standout speciality. The food is reasonably well prepared, but again, nothing will grab you and make you say "Wow, that was terrific !"
Parking can be a bear sometimes, and if you are there at peak times the noise can make conversation virtually impossible.
My kids and their friends seem to love it, but it just doesn't do much for me.

“Diverse Menu, Friendly Service, Good Food Overall, But Over-Priced”
Reviewed April 12, 2014

This restaurant looks like it was built into an old existing building but in fact was built from the ground up; from the outside, with its veranda spanning the entire front and the cupola, resembles a cross between a period mansion and a period train station. The split-level interior is divided into two dining rooms, one wood paneled with a fireplace and expansive bar, the other more country home in decor and also with a fireplace. The space is open and inviting. There is a second floor for private parties.

We dined here twice over a weekend. For Sunday brunch, the check including tax was $122, which included six entrees plus an additional shared entree and beverages. Dinner on a Saturday night for six was $227 with tax, which included one appetizer, six entrees, beer and wine. The menu is wide ranging (steaks, seafood, sliders, burgers, pizza, dashes of Italian, dashes of Mexican, etc. ... think Cheesecake Factory but with a smaller menu), apparently attempting to appeal to everyone, which in my experience is a bad omen. However almost everything was well prepared, fresh tasting and enjoyable. The platings were neat and appetizing. The dinner specials were more unique, creative and interesting than the menu items. Some of the brunch items were more pedestrian and overly salted. Dinner/Lunch appetizers range from $8 - $24, shellfish $12 - $17, pizza $11 - $13, sliders $8 - $15, sandwiches $13 - $18, beef and seafood entrees $22 - $33. For brunch they serve their full menu plus some breakfast items from $11 - $18.

A sampling from the menu: The fried calamari was actually tender and not chewy. The coating was light and not greasy. They serve only the body and no tentacles, which I consider a plus. The skirt steak was very tender, cooked to order, and even though it was a generous portion, at $28 it was not a great value. The portobello and mushroom ravioli was delicious, cooked perfectly and the flavors were fresh and delicious, but at $24 a poor value, especially for the portion size. The sliders (3 to an order) were tasty but the buns were a bit disproportionately large.

The service was friendly and generally attentive during both visits. The men's restroom (restrooms located in basement) was clean and well maintained, but there was an odor of sewer gas.
