“Visiting University of Rochester”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

We stayed here one night while touring U of R; chose it for proximity to the campus and it was very convenient. Our room was clean and pleasant, but the connecting room to ours was very loud so we asked to change rooms and they were accomodating. Nice staff, in both the hotel and restaurant--food was only fair and we wouldn't eat there again.
If we go back to Rochester we will likely try a different hotel and see a different part of the city.

I stayed at this property a few months ago for a conference. Overall, the hotel was a good choice. The lobby and mezzanine areas seemed newly renovated and were decorated appropriately. Rooms were nice, but could use an uplift. Some furnishings were old and outdated, but overall, the room was very comfortable. The bathroom was a good size. Meeting rooms were large and very well decorated, as well. The four elevators (good amount) were quick as well. All common areas were large, as well. Overall, this hotel was very nice, clean, and a good choice for a stay of a night or two. With some room updates, this hotel would be the top choice for a Downtown Rochester stay. But as is, I definitely recommend it.

Great time. Very good staff. The rooms were adequate. The hotel needs some cosmetic upgrading. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. We will go back next year. Check in and check out was a breeze. The parking garage needs some help.

Room Tip: Higher floors were very quiet.

Hotel staff was friendly .
Prices a bit high for the room, should have deals if staying more then one night.
Legends the restaurant / bar in hotel was over priced , especially for the drinks in the bar and quality of food .
If it wasn't for the St Patricks Day Parade and festivities (location was convenient ) , would not of picked this hotel due to price.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your stay at the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. I am sorry that you felt your room rate and pricing for Legends Sports Bar & Grill was high. Although our pricing and product offerings that day are limited due to the volume of guests, we did offer a St. Patrick’s Day Parade rate which is much lower than our standard RACK rates throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me directly the next time you stay and I will personally ensure your 100% satisfaction.

I have reviewed this hotel in the past. My family and I have been staying at this hotel at least 1x a year for lacrosse, sometimes 3x a year for the past 4-5 years. Overall, we have been satisfied with the hotel and our stays. However, the last 2 stays have started to change our opinion and we even commented about trying somewhere different the next time we are in the area.

We recently stayed at the hotel March 7-9. We have friends in the area and had plans Friday night to catch the Amerks game while in town and had already purchased our tickets. We arrive at 2:50pm. We knew we were early as check-in is 3pm. We were informed that we would need to wait 30 minutes (so 3:20ish) because no rooms were available yet as they were still being cleaned. We had no problems with this. We parked, unpacked our luggage, and waited in the lobby of the hotel. We made the front desk aware that we were waiting in the lobby and were informed that they would come over to get us once a room was available. Around 3:45, we decided to check in with the front desk again. Still, no rooms available. We continued to wait patiently in the lobby. While waiting, a wedding party was arriving as well as a Michael Jackson tour group. The lobby got very crowded with easily 100+people scattered. The tour group was able to check in which at least cleared the area in the lobby. The wedding party guests as well as us continued to wait (we actually made friends with some of the wedding party while waiting - nice people!). We waited for over 1.5 hours before eventually getting angry. I spoke with the front desk and asked how much longer the wait would be since we were told 30 minutes at 2:50pm. I was told "I don't know. Hopefully we can get you in before you have to leave for your night time plans." We eventually took a room with a king size bed and asked for a cot in place of a room with 2 queen beds just so we would have time to shower quickly, change, and get back out the door.

The room was fine upon entrance. We have never had any issues with the cleanliness or appeareance of the rooms.

Move to day 2: Saturday morning we got ready and went down to have lunch in the hotel restaurant. I had checked the times in the room as for when lunch starts (11am) so we knew we were a few minutes early and decided to wait in the lobby (we spoke with the wedding party guest we made friends with the night before who informed us they never got into their room until after the rehersal dinner and had to get changed in the lobby bathroom to attend the rehearsal dinner). While waiting, we saw a sign stating there was a private wine tasting in the restaurant area so I went to check with the hostess and make sure we would be able to have lunch at 11. I was told yes. We waited in the lobby until 11:05ish and then went to the restuarant. We were seated and were asked if we wanted lunch. We said yes and were told that lunch does not start until 11:30am. We left the resturant again and returned at 11:30 to which we were greeted by the same person who told us lunch does not start until 11:30. He questioned why we were back since lunch did not start until 11:30. We looked at him confused and informed him that it was now 11:30. We finally got our lunch which was not worth the hassle. We usually go to the Stock Exchange and will from now on. We have never had issues there and the food and staff are great.

After this lovely start to our day, we left the hotel for the days outings. We left the do not disturb sign on our door upon leaving for the day. When we arrived back in our room later that night, we noticed that the cot in our room had been changed for a different one. We have no idea why this was done. It is not a big deal as another cot was left for us to use, nothing was missing from our room, and there were no issues, but it seemed odd to us that out of no where a cot was exchanged with no explanation. Why for?

I think what was most irritating to us was that we were never given an apology and the inconvenience of the situation was never addressed by the staff. The last 2 stays we have had at this hotel have left us feeling that the hotel is unorganized, unfriendly, and not accomdating after a 6 hour drive. Unfortunately (since we have had good stays and the hotel is convienent to the BCA), I am unsure if we will return to this hotel for our next trip to Rochester.

My fiance and friends stayed for St. Patrick's Parade and festivities since this hotel is the headquarters for it. This pet friendly hotel was a huge perk for us and the pet fee was very reasonable.

Front Desk/Bellman: The front desk was very accommodating as always. When our keys deactivated on Saturday, Dan had security rush us up new keys on the 9th floor within minutes. AJ and Syed are as accommodating as always. Chet and Ralph were a huge help upon check in since there were not any carts available for us to use. Chet helped us carry all of our bags all the way up to the 9th floor. Israel even assisted my family with some shuttle to the service when it wasn't busy which was a great help since they knew parking would be tight later on in the day.

Rooms: The rooms were very clean and had a nice modern edge to them. Housekeeping was very accommodating with giving us extra towels and whatever we needed upon request.

The kids room on the 2nd floor was amazing. There were enough activities so kids were not waiting in long lines which was great for my 3 year old little girl. The food we got my daughter from there was nice and hot which felt great on a cold day.

Room Tip: TIP: If you are ever going to do St. Patrick's Day in Rochester. Book for two nights like we d...

Arrival: We arrived for a family wedding in March, along with several other groups. Our reservations were made months in advance. Some families arrived around 6 pm, but had to wait for 3 hours before the rooms were ready! They were told that due to a convention that got out of hand and groups that refused to leave, rooms had to be cleaned, top to bottom. These families were accommodated with tickets/coupons to the bar and breakfast. When my family arrived at 8:30 pm, we got into our room without a problem. Perhaps this is evidence of poor management.

Parking: No problems with the parking garage.

The room: The room was clean and quiet. Our king-size room had a fridge and microwave. Other rooms (smaller) did not. It would be a good idea to check ahead of time if you need these amenities. The bed was comfortable, but had a "sleep adjustment" remote that didn't work. The shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. There was very little counter-space in the bathroom. The décor was plain (no pictures on the walls) and the colors were ugly (sort of beige and reddish/maroon). There was one full-length mirror on the outside of the bathroom door / hall, entryway, so the lighting wasn't good. Other rooms only had a small mirror over the bathroom sink. Some family members felt their room was lacking in furniture, ie. the seating area had nothing!

Legends Bar / Restaurant: Convenient, as it's right on location. We had the breakfast buffet, which was good. Pretty much standard buffet fare: scrambled eggs, bacon, French toast, fruit, oatmeal, etc. Orange juice was watered-down. Coffee was good. Service was really good.

Wedding Reception: It was lovely! Many staff members were present/available. Food was good. The room was spacious, clean, and pretty.

Check-out: ..was in the afternoon. We were running a little late so the staff told us, "No problem. You can stay until 5:00." This was nice, but perhaps this is why guests checking-in couldn't get into their rooms until 9 pm the night before...?

Overall: We weren't in the room too often. When we were, it was adequate. A few upgrades and attention to details would have resulted in a higher rating. I would likely look for a different place first if I were to travel to Rochester again. However, if necessary, I would stay at the Radisson.
