Stayed one night here during the recent Jazz Festival (which was excellent!) The room was VERY nice; fresh and comfortable. Very modern décor, with clean lines. We liked it and found it very stylish. Felt like an expensive hotel in a larger city. The bathroom was very cool, and well renovated. Very functional, with only a shower as noted by Beverly B. But it was a big shower with nice tile and shelves to put your stuff. The toilet was in a little alcove for some privacy and the sink was nice and big, with good lighting. The large pictures made from photos of local sites was a great touch. Even the bathroom had one! We even had a balcony but used the A/C due to the heat.

The rate was over $200 with tax for a King room which was not huge, and that was the AAA rate! That's a bit high for Upstate NY; I would have expected $150 - $175 but perhaps they marked up due to the festival (hate when hotels do that!)

The area felt very safe with beautiful old mansions along East Ave. It was walking distance to several restaurants which we easily found with a short walk. We went to 2Vine for which I will write a separate review later. We did not eat at the hotel at all because we were on the go. At night when we returned from the festival, the hotel had a fire in the front yard in a fire pit, with lots of Adirondack chairs surrounding it. A bunch of people were there, laughing and having a blast! What a great, homey touch! That seems to be a fixture which is such an Upstate NY thing to do; a charming touch for a chain hotel to provide!

The only thing that wasn't great was the reception when we walked in. After leaving our car with the very professional female valet who pounced on our car as soon as we drove up(!) and gave us a welcome, we proceeded to the reception area. When you walk inside, you face a wall and it is not immediately obvious where you are supposed to go until you turn around to your left and see a small podium! There was a young gentleman at it, very young looking, as if he was still in High School, which added to the feeling of "where do I check in?". Not his doing of course, but he did not greet us or offer to check us in until we walked over to his desk. He was efficient but cool; not very friendly. I inquired about getting a travel agent rate (I own one) and his response was odd. He said he never heard of such a thing and never saw one in his system!! REALLY? And you are part of the Hilton hotel chain? I can see the travel agent rates when I book in their system and every chain hotel has them. They had not been available when I booked but often open up if the hotel is not full, so I always ask. Well, he looked at me like I had 3 heads and a lot of nerve to ask such a thing! NOT the response a travel agent should hear upon check in! Usually as soon as I show my agent card, I get big smiles and welcomes and I at least get a little amenity or an upgrade. This guy obviously doesn't know the business and that travel agents are a major part of the industry and potentially will send him lots of new business!! His ignorance was very insulting and unprofessional. All he had to do is say they did not have any agent rates available, and that would have been fine. But to insist they don't exist at HILTON? Come on, kid, get some training.

Aside from the bad check in experience, the hotel itself was fine. In fact, we ended up in the elevator a couple of times with a maintenance man who was working very hard and was VERY friendly. I think his name may have been Harold or something with an H. He was on the short side and perhaps Spanish. Really nice guy. If HE gets it, why doesn't the check in guy??

Room Tip: A little bit of street noise on the third floor. Would have liked a higher floor, but didn't dar...

4th of July from the rooftop deck of the Strathallan Hotel was Fantastic! The views were incredible as you could view 4-5 different firework displays around the city. The best was the Rochester display as we were eye level from the top of the Hotel. Cash bar and hot dogs and hamburgers fueled the 200+ people who attended. Can't wait for next year, this is the place to be to view the fireworks!

I am a native Rochestarian and have always wanted to stay here, especially since the recent renovations. It met all of my expectations. The remodel is fantastic and the rooms are beautifully appointed and clean. The bathroom was huge with a lovely walk-in shower. The lobby, bar and restaurant area are comfortable and very pleasing to the eye. Breakfast (buffet and a la carte) is delicious. The bar was quite lively in the evenings; must be the latest hip hangout. And be sure to try their Bloody Mary with the bacon garnish...yum! My only two (very minor) complaints: the bathroom needs a makeup mirror, as the main mirror above the very deep vanity is too far away and too dimly lit to be helpful when applying makeup; and there are only two elevators to service the entire property. Elevator waits were very long.

We have just spent 2 nights here at the Strathallan in Rochester and what a fantastic stay that has been. The hotel is in a great location, easy 5 minute walk to George Eastman house (it is in the same street), close to town and also to Park Ave where there are some great restaurants and bars.
The hotel has been recently refurbished and is freshen and modern throughout. The rooms were very comfortable with high quality linens. Our room rate included a buffet breakfast which was excellent. The selection and quality of all foods was exceptionally high with a focus upon fresh and organic foods.

The hotel has gym facilities and complimentary valet parking. Whether for an overnight stay or a longer break, I high,y recommend the Strathallan!

This hotel has a great location and a completely renovated interior and exterior. Large and luxurious suite for reasonable rates. One caveat: only one room on each floor has a bathtub, so you have to request one when making the reservation if you want one.

Stayed here one night during the local jazz festival and the king suite exceeded expectations. Had not previously stayed here before the renovations, but the room was large, clean and tastefully decorated (especially liked the local photos that were framed in the room, nice touch). The staff was professional and very friendly. Especially liked the the hotel bar which was called Char. It was roomy and the service was excellent. Breakfast the next morning was also good, buffet with a cooked-to-order omelet. I would definitely recommend this hotel and consider staying again.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. My husband is a diamond member and we were upgraded to a king suite. I kept hearing it had recently been renovated so was excited to see the room. It was a very nice looking room with a terrace. My 2 complaints were the lack of sound proofing - heard someone coughing and later laughing in another room - and the curtains are not black out curtains so the sun woke me early.
