Description: AVVINO opened in 2013 serving contemporary American and worldly cuisine. Chef Tim Caschette's fiercely seasonal menu showcases the restaurant's bonds with local farmers and purveyors. Janine Wasley takes the beverage program very seriously offering a carefully chosen wine list with close to 200 selections and forever changing cocktail program also taking inspiration from seasonal offerings. The restaurant offers three dining experiences: The Main Dining Room, Meyer's Den and The Patio (seasona

“Very Impressed......”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

Went to Avvino for the first time last night, and it was as great as everybody said it was. Ben the bartender is a pro, Janine the owner probably knows more about how to run a restaurant than anybody in the business and it shows. Amazing wine list, my steak was perfect (had a glass of the foxglove red zin with it), we had the heirloom tomato salad (with watermelon....who knew?) and the risotto balls for apps. Everyone else at my table loved their entrees which were the carbonara, the pork tenderloin and my favorite was the squid ink fettucine w calamari. (If you want something unique and fresh and incredible, get a nice chilled glass of white and that dish.) I'm getting it next time.
The servers are experienced and fun. Warning: call for a reservation early because they were booked solid but luckily had a cancellation so they fit us in.

“Enjoyable new restaurant”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

We were looking forward to a new experience with the positive reviews posted. Was a good experience. The lobster soup was very different than anything in Rochester and a must try. The arrancini was as good as the best in Rochester. Half orders of two pasta specials were also good Service was average and they were busy. Many other upscale items on menu. Worth a try

“Hoping for better”
Reviewed August 26, 2013 via mobile

We were really looking forward to a great meal given the reviews and public excitement. It didn't live up to the hype. The lamb meatballs - great. Scallops were over salted by a landslide. The tuna had very little flavor. The arancini had a cold piece of mozzarella in the center. Finally the homemade squid pasta and ravioli were overpowered by the excess fillers the chef put on the plate. I'm not sure why you go through the trouble of making delicious pasta/ravioli to ruin it with extras. They were great on their own, you should let them shine. The fettuccine was cut so you couldn't twirl or pick it with a fork easily The service and drinks were great. I'll have to try the burger next time. Hoping for a better second visit.

“Great vibe, great food!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

I've eaten here four times already. I just can't stop ordering the burger. I've tried one other dish, the osso bucco, which was quite good, but the burger is divine and the price is perfect.
The bar is a great place to eat as well...it got packed around 9 on a Saturday and ran hot til after 11. Good noise, good crowd.
Looking forward to it being around bringing a new scene to Brighton.

“Wonderful Surprise”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

I had dinner with my husband and another couple here on Friday night and had a meal that was enjoyable from start to finish. My husband started with oysters on the half shell that were served very traditionally and were very fresh. I had the lobster brodo, which was amazing. I think it is my new favorite starter! The hot broth is served table side and is fragrant and yummy. A table mate had the heirloom salad, again another incredible fresh star. We shared an entree of cowboy ribeye with mashed potatoes blended with taleggio, a special of the evening. The portion was enormous, a wise choice to share. Dessert was phenomenal, an orange semifreddo enrobed in dark chocolate with a toasted meringue on top, also a special. What a fine ending to a wonderful meal! The service was trained and very professional. I predict Avvino is well on its way to being considered a top rated Rochester establishment!
