This museum, in one of the original buildings of the University of Rochester is a true gem. Their collection has many outstanding pieces of the genre, and for such a small museum, their collection of American artists and their pieces are stunning. I was particularly captured by their rotating exhibit of pieces from the "Arts and Crafts Revival" from their neighbor to the south, Rochester Institute of Technology. Such imaginative work and so representative of the capacity of technology in design. I love everything about this museum, it's size, it's amazing collection, and it's lovely resturant that really provides a 4 star experience to your tour there! It is a greaat way to spend a sunday morning, with lunch!

I went to the MAG in early June and was happy to go back today. It's not a huge museum but it has some very interesting exhibits and was worth the second look. If you go on the Eastman House tour then you'll want to include a stop at MAG so you can see the original copies of the paintings from the house.
They also have the world's most adorable sculpture outside by Tom Otterness. It's called the Creation Myth and features small sculptures of a female artist throughout the installation. You can also see a few small sculptures up by the entrance to the building.
Open late on Thursday with half price tickets.

I went to the Memorial Art Gallery on a Family Day. What a remarkable day. I truly could have stayed for hours. The first tour guide was no so good, but he through it. The second tour guide was great. It was interesting to learn about the various sculptures and the history of them. This is a great place to go see a wide variety of art.

Starting with the outside plaza with an exhibit of Tom Otterness' wonderful sculptures and going through the galleries was delightful.

What a gorgeous and inspirational place! The building is gothic, but inside the warm expanses and delectable art make the visit well worth the austere facade. From ancient to modern installations, each room holds awesome displays of our world's best artifacts. The cafe is a bit snooty, but the food is worth the attitude. Delicious!
