“Food Truck Rodeo Is Lots of Fun”

We went as a family of 4 to the August 28, 2013 food truck rodeo at the Rochester Public Market. So did thousands of others...so there's a sign right there. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but once you find a spot it's all good. We started out by visiting the Rohrbach's beer stand for some liquid refreshments, Rohrbach's microbrews, Genny Light, and a modest wine selection. Truck vendors sell soft drinks, water, juices, etc. Then it was time to wander the trucks and decide what we want out of the diverse set of offerings. Barbecue, Latin American, Asian fusion, Mac and Cheese, soul food, a good old fashioned hot dog, Everything under the sun I think. One of my rules is to try something I've never had before...cross chicken gizzards off that list. Very tasty! Then we copped a couple Cuban sandwiches that were huge, tasty, and delicious from one of the trucks that was specializing in Latin American offerings. Few tables are available for sitting. Many bring their lawn chairs and just plop down in small groups. Crowd size was manageable...men's room was clean. All in all a great night. One more left this year, Sept. 25...if you've never been to the food truck rodeo, give it a try! Here's a web site link:

We went on a Tuesday, as they have a Farmers Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It was real interesting. Lots of different vendors, some with truly home grown goodies and others with trucked in specials. There are also some craftsmen and one vendor with your dollar special items. We got great buys on cucumbers, corn, tomatoes, plums and ginger.
We stroller acrossed the street to the bakery, which seemed to specicalize in breads, but also made fantastic nut bars! The pecan bars were exceptionally good.
It really was a nice outing to experience amixture of events and pretty good for a Tuesday morning.

This was my first visit to the market with my daughter, who recently moved to Rochester. It's a fun place to get great deals on fresh produce and baked goods. There are a few of the usual t-shirt, purse, etc. vendors as well.

Been there twice and had great times. Bring backpacks or carts because you always buy more than want. There is great produce albeit shipped from California so not exactly energy efficient. There were peppers, cukes, lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, apples, pears, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, oranges, apricots, onions, potatoes, carrots, zucchini, avocadoes, mangoes and celery. There were cheese venders, baked goods and wines from the local wineries. There are probably 12-15 cafes for coffee, pastries, crepes, sandwiches, pizza and empanadas among other things. You can also buy inexpensive knives, cutlery, gadgets, cutting boards and a hodgepodge of other household goods. There is ample parking but the streets do get very congested. I parked on a side street off of Union St 1/4 mile away to beat the traffic.
We went there on a Sat 11AM and it was very busy. Saturday hours are 5AM-3PM. We had a great time looking, shopping and eating. There is almost a carnival type atmosphere. The people are friendly. It's a fantastic and inexpensive way to spend several hours.

From going to the public market with my grandfather as he sold vegetables among all the Italian immigrants...to taking my sons, out of town visitors and now my new wife.... I love the place! The hustle bustle and crowds are a backdrop to an enormous selection of foods and plants at a good old fashioned barter price.... And that's the fun. Knowing you save hundreds a year is great but knowing you get fresh from the farm plants and fruits and veggies builds a healthy life style.

Parking is an adventure but plentiful.... Even if you have to wait or walk a bit.
Go early before the big crowd forms or go 1 to 2 pm before they close to her amazing deals.

But go!
