They have done a lot of work to make this zoo an enchanting destination for both children and adults. I visited with my 6 month old granddaughter and she enjoyed dipping her toes into the natural-looking wading area that's a few inches deep. We loved the variety of animals, and especially liked the huge polar bear tank. There are plenty of concession spots to grab a snack or lunch and a modest gift shop too. It was a very enjoyable trip and we'll definitely visit again!

This zoo was good for the kids and great as far as being able to get up close to the animals and view them. Great place to spend a day with the family.

In the interest of full disclosure I am not a big fan of traditional zoos. The cages always look too small. The Seneca park zoo is slowly moving towards bigger spaces for their population. It is in an urban setting but they have done quite a bit. I am waiting for the poor orangatang (sp?) to get better space! (Beware this inside structure if you don't like bad smells!) Food service is good, clean bathrooms. There are a number of knowledgable docents to talk to.

Many improvements have been made....A great elephant and lion enclosures. A nice visit for a family, although one may consider it pricey. Zoo still has a very old main building in need of replacement. Zoo is fun and there are many animals to see, but when compared to others of similar size it does rate that high.

We got very lucky and had a beautiful Saturday in October (felt like early September) when we were visiting Rochester for other reasons, so we decided to try out the zoo with our 5 year old. It was a great decision.

First- the zoo itself is a great size for a 5 year old. It's in a beautiful setting, so it's a lovely walk but not exhausting. There are enough "cool" animals that it was very fun for our son - elephants, rhinos, lions, tigers, many types of monkeys, etc. It's small enough that you can really see the animals well. We spent about 15 minutes just watching the elephants do their thing- pick up dirt with their trunks and give themselves a dust shower, etc. Because he could see well, our son was totally enthralled.

There is also a lovely play area in the zoo -which our boy loved.

The best part, though, is that they had on their Halloween program. Being tourists, we didn't know about this (I checked the website back in August when we were planning the trip) so we didn't have a costume for our son, but it didn't matter. For $8 extra, he got to participate in Trick-or-Treat activities- go around, find the stations (this is not hard), get stamps on his passport thing and collect some treats and some other small objects. At the end, he got a prize (a Halloween themed drinking cup). Given that we would often spend more than double that on a somewhat crummy souvenir, we thought it was good value, especially since it wasn't actually too much junk food (he got crayons, small animal rulers, a plastic animal ring, fake fangs, and the like). He wasn't bothered by his lack of costume, and the volunteers made just as much of a fuss of him as with the kids in costume.

We spent about 2.5 hours here - it was just about right. We'd had a big day the day before (Museum of Play) so we were hoping for some nice outdoors time that was a bit more low-key and we got it.

We did not stay for lunch- they did have different places where you could buy lunch, but I can't comment on those. Parking is free. The bathroom facilities were deemed acceptable by the 5 year old, which is no small feat.

Overall, this got 2 5-year-old thumbs up!
