Just this weekend we went to the Zoo. It was the first warm day of spring. Although it was busy- it was not overly crowded. The new African exhibit is really nice. The only complaint is that some of the older areas need some fixing up. There were a few empty cages- some that were just the structures left.
Definitely a nice afternoon getaway!~

A year-round zoo in Rochester is a brave venture. W took our 4,3, and 10 month-old on an April day that struggled to reach 30 degrees - and actually enjoyed it. The buildings were lose enough from each other that no one got frostbite (that probably would have ruined it for us.
The zoo itself is well-stocked with a variety of animals (rhinos, elephants, lions, a tiger, a polar bear that looked like he was at home, and a new baby golden tameran). Overall, a good experience .

The zoo expanded since the last time I visited. The rhino exhibit is great. They also have an African exhibit as well as animals from the NY region.

This zoo is the second worse I've ever seen. The enclosures are not even remotely similar to the animals' natural habitats, the tiger's are in nothing more than a fenced in back yard! This is what is considered a road-side zoo by professionals in the animal field. Translation- they do as little as humanly possible to make as much money as possible. No regard for animal welfare(physical, mental, emotional health) . What a shame there are no enforced laws to protect animals kept in captivity.

Great place to relax and spend several hours to enjoy watching animals. The staff obvious cares about their animals and enjoys sharing information with you.
