Description: The Tap & Mallet is owned by Joe McBane and Casey Walpert. Joe is from England, and has lived in the United States since 2000. He managed The Old Toad for the first 7 years he was in the country. Casey opened The Bug Jar on Monroe Avenue and currently owns Mex on Alexander Street. We aim to be the best destination in Rochester for beer and pub food. We believe that having the best beer requires a balance between freshness and selection. We chose to limit our draft lines to 30 with the addition of 1 cask ale so that a fresh glass of beer can be guaranteed every time. The majority of our lines rotate so that there is always something new to try. Our inspiration for the menu comes from a love for food prepared from top quality fresh ingredients. Whether our guest wants dinner or just a snack they should always expect a range of flavors from around the world at an affordable price. The atmosphere is that of a contemporary pub. It is comfortable and welcoming to all. There is soft lighting and music that doesn't overwhelm. We want people to feel relaxed and at home. While we specialize in fine beers we understand that drinking beer is a truly enjoyable social past time. No one should ever feel bad about their choice of drink due to an elitist attitude. Many of our guests are interested in exploring new flavors and we are there to help and encourage them with their selections.

went to dinner with my wife and another couple on 9/21/12. Has pleasantly surprised just how good the meals were. Us gtwo guys have a wonderful local draft octoberfest beer. They have a very good selection of draft and bottled beers.
Three of us had the fish and chips. The batter was thin, flakey and tastey. The white fish was light and fried prefectly with what appeared to be a homemade tarter sauce side. The meal came with fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was very creamy, just the way my wife and I like it.
My friend and I split a deep fried pickle that we both agreed was the best we've eaten and that the sauce was a creamy cajun for dipping.
My wife was the only one that had a desert. She chose the creme brulee that was great, but very small for the price.

A rehearsal dinner at a pub? You Bet! I was sceptical when my nephew said that we were going to a local pub for dinner. The Tap & Mallet delivered in many ways. Obviously the beer was wonderful, the food excellent, homemade sausage and mash and awesome fish and chips, even the creme brûlée was stellar. With parking in the back, a ramp and very efficient service, this neighborhood restaurant is a gem!

Good food, excellent beer menu. The printed menu quickly becomes outdated as kegs are emptied and new beers are added to the rotation. The locals suggest the App, but iOS wouldn't locate it. Cool place if you enjoy beer. Lots of hard to find bottle selections to choose from. Atmosphere is great, the music was a fun, and eclectic collection of styles. Dart board proved to be the favorite hang out spot.

Food was hot, fresh, and delish. Went on our lunch, service was quick. I had the Cuban. The fries that came with are handcut and served perfectly hot. We will be going back

They have a wonderful selection of local and imported draft beers. Wings and Patty melt were great.
