“Birthday Brunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2012

Celebrated a birthday with brunch, a most unusual brunch with items I had not seen before. Breakfast pizza with real eggs on it. Filet mignon hash with perfectly poached eggs. Huevos Rancheros which would be expected in Santa Fe but in New York? (Excellent black beans accompanied those) and a Breakfast Hamburger complete with a fried egg. In a bow to the South they also offered Fried Chicken and Waffles and Asiago Grits. The grits were as good as I have ever had and I am a southern boy. Our waitress, Kelly, took very good care of us keeping our cups replenished with coffee. The Costa Rican coffee is excellent. We ate outside which was very pleasant. I recommend the brunch. It is fun and it is good even if it might be considered a bit pricey.

“Nice Experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

The menu is very creative, and all items are named after Rochester Landmarks and terms, but not sure that the food was as excellent as its descriptions. Summertime (adult) drink is the "Strawberry Lemonaid", which is very tasty and goes down like Kool-Aid! Tasty, but $8.00 a pop is a bit pricey. Sodas for the kids were very expensive. Sweet Potato Fries were a huge hit. Salads look wonderful on the menu - but the Caesar and Powdermill were just okay. Our waitress was excellent! She was very friendly and very efficient, and does her job well and with pride. Overall a pleasant experience, until being asked by the hostess to leave our table (due to the fact they were on a wait) while we waited for our bill. I've never had that happen before, and our waitress was not very happy when she found out. Not certain if this is normal here, or if the hostess needs a brush-up on etiquette.

“Wonderful food, service, atmosphere.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

My sister and I planned to go to another restaurant in Village Gate for lunch but it was closed. So we wondered into The Gate House. The atmosphere was lovely, clean, up to date. The service was wonderful there was plenty of staff and our server was very accommodating. To start, the side salads were large. The burgers were juicy with toppings that were fresh and different. The pizza was thin crush, very tasty. I can see myself going back there again and again.

“Really Good Food - Trendy Vibe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2012

The Village Gate building has become one of my favorite stops in Rochester. It houses a lot of really good restaurants with atypical menu offerings (Lento, Salinas, California Rollin - are also
really good places, not sure about the Dark Horse coffe shop though)

The Gate House has an interesting vibe to it - diverse crowd, some from alt nation, some Yuppies and familes - but that adds postively to the atmosphere.

They've got a good story for the food as they claim to use organic and local ingrediants when possible.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to say with as diverse of a menu that they do have - I continue to go back for their burgers!! They are really good, with a wide range of topings (avocado, hot peppers, mushrooms, different types of cheeses etc.) - not to mention quality beef by a Chef that knows how to cook it!!! (apparently a fading art in many other places)

Anyway - if you want to take someone to a cool place then head on over to Village Gate, and eat at the Gate House (or Lento . . or Salinas or . . . . )!!

Mike

“Everything Good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

Everything I have had at the Gate House has been delicious andI have been there several times. The personal pizzas and the burgers are both top notch and the fry basket is to die for. It is always packed on the weekends so choose your time wisely. It is also packed on show nights at the Aud with pre-show crowds as well. Good choice for a delicious casual date!
