“One of the most beautiful places on earth”

Finger Lakes Wine Country
Reviewed February 2, 2012

The rolling hills, punctuated by beautiful, picture-postcard lakes, sprinkled with interesting little towns, this area is not to be missed. Go out of your way to see it, spend a few days roaming...........you never know what you're going to find!

the most beautiful area in the world! A mixture of Switzerland, Scotland and northern Italy.

There are so many wineries, you'd be hard-put to visit them all. Famous for Reisling, the region has grown in popularity and quality from year to year. Dr. Frank's is a favorite stop.

Due to Hurricane Irene, our initial destination was washed out, so we headed up to Ithaca for the Brewers Festival. A couple of days before, we hit the wine trail on Seneca Lake. What a gorgeous place to visit.

The vineyards were great, excellent prices for the flights and samples. Our favorite was the Wagner Winery and Brewery.

They vineyards are a comfortable distance apart, and only a short drive from where we were staying in Ithaca.

I can not wait to go back up there and be the drinker instead of the driver!!

This region is often-overlooked, but truly is a gem in upstate NY. The wines of Napa and Sonoma clearly get the majority of the attention, but if you're on the East Coast, the Finger Lakes may be a nice short little trip. The Reislings really are fantastic and there are nice surprises at nearly every vineyard.
