nice place for young children. If you have been to any larger aquarium this is a bit of a dissapointment. But for Long Islands 1st it is ok.

“Shark dive at Atlantis Marine World Aquarium”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2010

My twelve year old brother and I went to Atlantis Marine World for the Shark Dive experience. We arrived early and explored the aquarium before our dive. The exhibits are beautiful, especially the "Coral Reef" and the "Clownfish & Anemone" exhibits. I also enjoyed watching the playful otters and "petting" the stingrays in "Ray Bay".

After we signed in for our shark dive, we were given a brief talk on the sharks by an aquarium guide while we watched them swim in the "Lost City of Atlantis Shark Exhibit". Then we were briefed on the diving equipment by the divemaster, and assigned times for our dives. Only two guests dive at a time.

A few minutes before our dive, we changed into our bathing suits and put on the provided wetsuits and weight belts. We stepped into the cage and the guide took a photo of us (the photo was given to us a few hours later (included in the cost of the dive)). Then the cage was slowly lowered into the water. The divemaster was in the cage with us the entire time and we could talk to him, to eachother, and to the aquarium guide (who was outside the tank) using a special communication system inside our full-face masks.

The sharks really showed an interest in us. They were circling the cage constantly.

You can read more about our plunge into the shark tank and see our pictures at www.mydreamcametrue.com/dreamsharkdive

“Great fun for kids!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2009

Atlantis Marine World Aquarium has lots to see and do for young children. My kids marvelled at the very large tanks which allowed them to see underwater at their eye level. They ware allowed to feed and pet the stingrays and also enjoyed a touch tank. I found the interesting types of fish quite enjoyable and relaxing to watch although the varieties of fish and sea creatures could be more diverse. The admission price was a bit steep but they do offer discount or pay one price tickets where you could get lunch included.

“Had a great time here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2009

I live on Long Island, and hadn't been to the aquarium for a while. Boy, did they expand it! The outside was a lot of fun. They had penguins, alligators, a koi pond and sea lion show as well as some newer outside exhibits. The staff were super friendly and eager to educate you on the animals. This is a great outing for a family with kids! Make sure you go on a sunny day so you can enjoy the outdoor exhibits.
