Housed in a converted church, Terrapin provides a picturesque dining experience. We ate out on the patio and it was a tasteful evening from beginning to end. My endive salad and trout dinner was quite good. My husband enjoyed his Hudson River filet mignon as well. Great place - lots of food choices - excellent ambiance.

After attending SUNY New Paltz graduation, we were invited to join about 30 graduates, families, & friends to celebrate. We went to Terrapin and truly enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is located in an old church building which gives it a special environment. Considering the number of people attending, the service was quite good. The menu was made with several offerings of appetizers, entrees, & dessert choices. Everyone enjoyed their selections. It was nice to walk along the street with the many shops. Rhinebeck is a lovely place to visit and this restaurant is a good choice.

We tried Terrapin during restaurant week and enjoyed the meal and the service. The second time around was not a success. The service was very laid back - in other words we waited a long time between courses and received almost no attention or communication from our server. Two of us had the duck. The breast slices were excellent but the duck confit wrapped in a crepe was dry and relatively tasteless. The pork chops were a hit once again, and the swordfish special got a very positive review. So, a mixed bag. Based on the mediocre service and environment at upper end prices we think there are better choices in the Hudson Valley.

There are two parts to Terrapin, the bistro/bar side and the restaurant. We eat at the bistro because the food is great, it's a lot less expensive than the restaurant and the atmosphere is more lively. Local, healthy ingredients and the waitstaff is well trained and efficient. We had a slight problem with our meal once and the manager went over the top to make sure we were happy. My favorite is the burger with gruyere cheese on whole grain toast. Good bar with a combinations of locals, weekenders and visitors to town.

Fresh ingridients, vegan vegetarian, AND meat lover friendly, which is a perfect quality to have. Great food, and a great time.
