The atmosphere and staff at Gaby's are very welcoming - even with children. The restaurant is always clean. The bar features a tower filled with pineapple tequila and you get a free taste at the end of your dinner meal, mmm. They've got a big patio area to enjoy in the spring or fall season - even with your pets. Having been to Gaby's a few times in the last 8 months in search of great Mexican food, I find myself disappointed every time I leave (so much so that I've stopped going). The ingredients they use are very fresh and colorful, but they really lack any kind of seasoning - chicken tastes like chicken, beans like beans. The chips, salsa and drinks are quite good though.

I guess by Rhinebeck holiday weekend standards it's no pricier than anywhere else in town. Food was quite good; excellent presentation. Service: no complaints.

When to lunch at Gaby's Cafe yesterday. The chips and salsa were deilcious. I had enchiladas verde, which came with rice and beans. Everything was fresh and tasty. I also had a glass of red sangria, that was very good. I love the decor, everything was so bright and colorful, and most of all, very clean! I enjoyed my lunch very much and will return.

Hidden away down an alley we found Gaby's Cafe. Right away, upon entering, we felt comfortable and the atmsphere was great. Food was fantastic especially the salsa and guacomole. We wanted to order the paella but was tld that it takes 30-35 minutes to prepare. Since we had theater tickets we were disappointed that we couldn't have it but very impressed that it is cooked to order. We will definitely go back for the paella. Most impressive of all was the service. Wonderful, warm, friendly, accomodating staff abound at this charming, delicious place.

Mexican food is tough to pull off, especially in an upscale market like Rhinebeck, where Zagat-rated excellent establishments are dime-a-dozen. Gaby's cafe hits it out of the park with authentic, satisfying cuisine, bright southwestern-inspired decor, pleasant service, and reasonable prices.

Location: The restaurant is on the Garden side of the relatively new Montgomery Row shopping center. There is extremely limited parking, so it is best to park in one of the free public lots located on Market St and stroll through the village on your way.

Atmosphere: Gaby's is very bright; the bold southwestern palette and a full wall of windows facing south provide ample natural light on even the cloudiest of days. It is always spotless inside, and the utensils and table linens are well-chosen. About a third of the restaurant is devoted to the well-stocked bar, while the rest of the space is occupied by tables and a row of half-height booths.

Service: All of the wait staff I have dealt with were friendly, cheerful, and attentive (without being annoying or clingy). Food arrives quickly and still hot.

Food: Gaby's strikes a good balance between authenticity (nothing tastes even remotely like it came from Chili's) and accessibility (nothing too bizarre or eyeball-meltingly spicy). Every meal is preceded by complimentary homemade tortilla chips and salsa fresca, which will be replenished without asking if it should run out before the main course arrives. Portions are generous, ingredients are fresh (the guacamole is even made tableside), and the presentation is creative - the sauces on larger burritos are layered to look like the Mexican flag (green on one side and orange on the other, with a perfectly-lined strip of bare tortilla in the center).

Value: I have only eaten lunch at Gaby's, but the prices for that meal are competitive - just under $10 to about $15 for entrees. For similar quality food, you'd be looking at at least $20 in other Rhinebeck locations.

Overall, Gaby's is a great place to grab a flavorful, upscale lunch without breaking the bank.
