Sad that this restaurant has excellent food and decent service but awful ambiance. The space is extremely noisy and lacks any privacy to be able to talk. The totally open space with BAR in the front as you enter and then the seats for restaurant is right next/behind this open bar lacks any wall or separation to diminish the rowdy noise from the bar. As the evening progresses after 7pm, It gets very very noisy and LOUD as those at the bar start drinking and having good time. i dont' blame them but it is very unfair and most uncomtortable for the diners in this pricey upscale restaurant sitting right near this bar.

We live in NYC and also have home in Red Hook so we are use to noise and good food/hi prices. We were so disappointed that we could hardly talk or hear each other with the loud yelling/talking/laughing from the bar guests. Our delicious meal was negated with this poor ambiance. For this price and type of restaurant they should have thought out the acoustics/noise imposed on the diners when they designed/built this restaurant.

This is first and foremost a RESTAURANT and not a sports bar first............so why would you have a huge bar right in the FRONT of the restaurant with totally OPEN space to the restaurant right next to/behing this bar?

Even with the great meal, we would NOT return or recommend Flatiron unless you just want to go for drinks and have a screaming, loud, rowdy, yelling time.

Visited last year, and wrote a review, but now have to say, while the food is really good; the portions are skimpy, and I mean miniscule - there was a lot of white space on the plate!

At $65/pp inclusive, thought we shouldn't feel hungry when walking out the door; and felt that I got that 8oz filet rather than the 10oz. Also, as before, a very light hand on the wine pours. All considered, a very poor value, even though the service was adequate and the menu creative.

The food here is quite good and the locally sourced stuff is great. It was good enough that when fair traffic prevented us from getting to Rhinebeck for dinner, we went back the next night and loved it.

I really am not too sure what happens to cause some reviewers to blast this place. We almost didn't go because of some of the reviews, but, in general, there were enough good reviews to warrant a visit while attending the Bard Music Festival nearby. We found this place to be just fine in every regard. Prices are not low, but the value seemed reasonable to us. Of course..when you're on vacation you don't tend to worry too much. I don't think I'd be tempted to go here several times a week.

The drinks were just fine...generous and quickly served. The wine list seems a bit limited but good values.

The four of us split appetizers...steak tartare and some almost embarrassingly rich pork belly. They were both quite good and plenty enough to go around.

They have a couple of specialty burgers. I had the duckburger with fried egg. It was really good. Another of us had the lamb burger..not as unusual but very good. Another of us had the "Grilled Hanger Steak Frites," which was delicious..perfectly done (rare..not that easy to do with hanger steak) and very tasty.

We had the mac and cheese and brussels sprouts sides. The brussels sprouts were outstanding. The mac and cheese sort of ordinary.

We didn't try desserts...we were stuffed.

All in all, we had a good experience here. We didn't feel overcharged or underserved. The portions seemed about right to us. All the dishes we tried were very good and ample. The service was friendly and timely. I'd not hesitate to recommend it to visitors.

The scallops for $23.00 were hardly visible. After putting on my reading glasses I saw them, and thought it was a joke, but no that is the ' new cuisine' I am told . We left after a miniscule meal and went to the gas station across the street and to enjoy a few donuts and coffee.
