If you are near Raquette Lake this is a must do! My family has a camp on the lake and we cruise at least once a year for the past decade. There are multiple cruises a day and on most cruises dining is included. We typically start the cruise on the upper deck and make our way down to the heated dining room for the meal. During the cruise the captain gives a narration of the history of the lake and points out the great camps on the shore. This is a treat for the entire family.

This ship built by the owners in 90/91 does a number of cruises of the lake in season which depending on weather can include Winter sailings. Most include meals (lunch, dinner, champagne Sunday brunch, etc.) as well as 2 hour tours of the lake. The captain is knowledgeable about the history and buildings around the lake including churches, summer camps, lodging properties, etc.) Well worth a detour from Lake Placid or other Adirondack destination. Combine it with a tour of Great Camp Sagamore and save a few dollars. Check out the web site for special events.

The Captain built this boat himself, and is a native of the area. He also knew one of the care-takers of one of the great camps (Huntington's) and unloads a wealth of information about how things came about in the area. Food was excellent. Wish it hadn't rained, the first half of the trip was dry and we enjoyed being upstairs. On the lower deck, a large group came in, ate dinner and gabbed the whole time ignoring the Captains descriptions of what we were passing. They were so loud I couldn't understand. But we made the most of it. We met our neighbors who were newlyweds on honeymoon.

Very relaxing. Lovely way to see some of the old "Great Camps" that WW Durant created.

My husband and I enjoyed our cruise in late September during the peak of the fall foliage season. Wow!!! The scenery was simply breath-taking.

The cruise on the boat --WW Durant, named for the rich Gilded Age developer in the late 1800s-- was very relaxing. The dining room is heated so we enjoyed the sites in there most of the trip. We went to the upper deck, too, where the views are stunning.

Included in our cruise was lunch, a wonderful meal! The chef is the son of the captain, who studied at the Culinary Institute of America before cooking up dishes for the cruise. Excellent food.

During the cruise, the captain quietly relays local history over the PA system. The dining room was filled with noisy seniors so I missed some of the stories. You can hear the captain on the upper deck, which is nicer.

If you go, bring a jacket, even if it's quite warm on land. The cool breeze descends across the large lake and it's very chilly if you are unprepared.

The trip is excellent and the cost of the hour-long cruise is worth it just for the lunch alone.

Our good friends raved about the dinner cruises by Raquette Lake Navigation Company so we tried their lunch cruise - it was a fantastic finish to our Adirondack vacation!
