The place was nicely tucked away near a lake - we were told we could swim there, but never bothered to go because it was pretty rainy all weekend. The back of the castle grounds were pretty interesting and there looked to be some hiking that you could do straight from the house. There was also a patio with a hammock and an electric fire pit that we were able to sit around. We also used the grill outdoors (small, bring your own charcoal). Inside there were 3 true bedrooms (2 upstairs, one downstairs) which all slept comfortably. The layout of the interior was a little funky, with lots of small nooks and crannies - it does not look as impressive on the inside as it does on the outside - but it was very homely inside and perfectly comfortable. We used it as a weekend getaway with some friends, but could easily be used for families visiting the area as well. About 30mins drive to Storm King Art Center.
Overall, a little light on the extravagance if you're looking for something super super fancy - but cozy, versatile, and more than gets the job done.
The house is so much fun! I spent there a weekend with my friends and we all loved it. There are two living rooms to socialize in and there are plenty of little nooks to enjoys solitary reading, web browsing etc. (good wifi provided). We used the outdoor grill for dinner and that was a highlight of the trip! They have all the grill utensils and plenty of spices. It was a rainy weekend so we did not get to enjoy the outdoor fire pit and terraces but I can imagine how fun it would be have breakfast on the terrace.
The house has so much character and we constantly kept exploring it and discovering all the details.
First off, the home is stunning-- it's a genuine castle on the outside, but the interior is cozy and has a modern rustic feel. You can tell the owners took pride in decorating the space and keep trying to make the little details as homey and easy for guests to navigate as possible. During the day, I spent time relaxing in the hammock on the back deck, and used their grill to whip up dinner. At night, the owners left out a Duraflame log out so you can use one of their two fireplaces. As far as sleeping arrangements go, they had plenty of beds for our group. The sheets were ultra clean and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. Next time I rent this place out, it will have to be for longer!
