“Charming, clean and cozy”
Reviewed August 16, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We were a little scared of the size from the outside, but inside the cottage is cute and big enough. The cottage is fantastic, and pleased the whole persnickety family.

The Pultneyville area is very fun. It's a short stroll up the road to the Deli for a pizza and beer on the patio. My wife and I enjoyed a great dinner at the Grill - overlooking the yacht club and beautiful evening sky - while kids made a pizza in the cottage's well stocked kitchen (they had every utensil we needed).

The roads around the cottage are great for biking - and the houses and lake view in the area are fun to look at. The cottage had two bikes, so with the two we brought, we took many trips around the area. We also swam at the free beach in Sodus Bay (park on a side street and you're steps from what we kept calling the ocean - since Ontario is indeed ocean like - except no salty coating after swimming). The hiking at Chimney Bluffs is worth the short drive, the light house at Sodus Bay was interesting - and offered a great view of the kite sailors, and the Thorpe winery near the Bluffs was a fun treat ($3 per tasting). I'm not much of a shopper, but the Good Old Days Country Shop up the street in Pultneyville was unique, with interesting antiques and knick knacks.

We're from just south of Syracuse, so we thought we lived in apple country, but we were amazed at the abundance of fruit trees in the area. It was mid-August, so the many farm stands and stores were brimming. I also was ignorant of the War of 1812 skirmishes in the area; there was lots of local history to learn – including the Battle of Pultneyville – where the Brits harassed the locals.

We had a great time. Things we had on our list, but will have to wait until we visit again next year are ...
- lunch at the Burnap's Farm Market & Garden Cafe
- stand-up paddle boarding in Rochester
- a visit to Sea Breeze (our favorite amusement park) and the Museum of Play in Rochester
- kayaking in Sodus Bay.
- dinner (and cider) at the Embark Craft Ciderworks
- and probably a million other things we missed. We'll definitely be back.

Liked best: Well maintained and comfortable environment, very homey, proximity to lake.
Liked least: Having to leave. And the cherries weren't ripe enough to steal.
