This hotel is in the City of Poughkeepsie. Parking is in municipal lot but overnight guests are given a voucher to show if guest is charged for parking. Check-in was quick. The room was ordinary; bed was comfortable but the room furniture looked worn and needed to be updated. The complimentary breakfast included basic items such as eggs, waffles, sausage, bacon. Food was warm (should have been hot since I was at breakfast as soon as it opened). Nothing spectacular. I stayed here because I was attending a conference at the hotel but I would not jump at the chance for a return visit. The hotel seems to cater to business people and wedding guests. The Friday night of my leaving the hotel had 3 weddings and a large number of guests were using the elevators to access the rooms.

The Grand Hotel was in downtown Poughkeepsie not a terrific place . the room was comfortable and the bed fine . The room was functional clean but the parking somewhat difficult ( not their responsibility ) the breakfast that we had was a buffet and was ordinary with dry cold scrambled eggs . The Sat AM was much better . The one thing I j have to say is that the chairs at the conference I attended were comfortable . Would I return ? i think I would seek out other accommodation that were a better value with a better surrounding area.

Room Tip: How about a local Inn ???

We stayed over for a wedding. It was very cold and the hotel didnt have the heat on yet. In fact the ac was blasting everywhere. We asked what could be done about it and the front desk clerk said it wasn't turned on and there was nothing he could do. It was September and in New York not Florida. The bathroom was awful. No fans and the tub didnt drain and you could have a bath because the stopper wouldn't work. The area where the wedding was held was nice and the food was good. The next morning we went for breakfast at 9. There was no food left except a few boxes of cereal. I don't understand how that could happen. Obviously the hotel knows how many guests they have. The wedding was lovely but I wouldn't recommend staying at the hotel overnight. Looking at the lobby you would think you're going to have a great room, not the case. It's run down and needs updating.

We hadn't planned on staying at this hotel as we were on a college tour with our daughter and had reservations at another hotel which turned out to be quite far away from our college tour the next morning. After a long day, we Googled hotels in Poughkeepsie. That was a mistake.
The upside was they accommodated us with a room for that night when we had no previous reservation. But the hotel rooms were run down, dirty (hair in the bathroom), and the room service food was terrible.
Our room overlooked a highway and it was pretty noisy.
The 1970's decor didn't help. This hotel needs a renovation, a new cook, and more. We would never stay here again.

I was staying at the hotel for a weeklong conference. Everyone on the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel room and common areas were very clean and pleasant. The hotel provided the breakfast and lunch buffets for the conference...and both were very good. I was especially surprised by the quality of the lunch buffets...much better than the typical conference food. The hotel is older so some areas are dated...particularly the bathrooms. I also didn't feel entirely safe in some areas surrounding the hotel. I would suggest caution as with most cities.
It is a smaller hotel lacking the 'sparkle' of newer, larger city hotels...but it was still charming and pleasant. The friendliness of the staff contributed much to the charm and appeal.

We stayed here for New Years Eve weekend. The hotel itself was ok. Nothing special. I'm used to 4 star or higher so the accommodations were not what I expect out of a hotel. The staff was very helpful, and the NYE party was a lot of fun. We went with a fairly large group of people.

I only ate at the hotel for one breakfast at of the few days we stayed. Food was good. Hotel seemed to be very busy with weddings. The surrounding area was interesting. Not much to do after a day or two in the area though. I would recommend this place if you going for an event, but not for a random vacation.

Spent the weekend at the Poughkeepsie Grand and was pleasantly surprised. While Poughkeepsie itself is a little long in the tooth, the hotel is a little pleasure island. I have to give the city credit; it looks like they are in the middle of a mini revival with some nice improvements based on the water front area. But it is still an older city in upstate New York that has likely been exploited by the politicians, has lost many jobs and its industrial base and is struggling. It’s obvious some progress has been made, keep up the good work and build on the past. The hotel is located next to the convention center, OK if you want to call it that, again an obvious attempt to revitalize the city with a modern concrete monolith structure that doesn’t fit in a centuries old city. I will agree with others the hotel was clean but a little dated, the bathrooms are small and the attention to construction details was missing a lot of shabby workmanship. The free breakfast is a complete breakfast with an omelet station, and was decent for a free breakfast. The staff is pleasant and hard working, they are proficient and I tip my hat to all of them. The rooms are standard hotel rooms clean and comfortable –acceptable. The food in this hotel is a hidden gem, what we had was outstanding and certainly underestimated. But—from the number of weddings taking place, it must be well established and decent. The parking is a little odd but free in the civic center parking garage next door. Make sure you secure any valuables as you should do at any hotel parking lot. This is great hotel to tour any of the sights in the lower Hudson Valley and is convenient to the rail station both Metro North and Amtrak. The hotel is large, right downtown and but for the dated appearance do a great job and should be given the opportunity to serve. You are in the downtown area of a city and should exercise common sense precautions and be aware of your surroundings if you venture out. Its not the wild west but just use your head.
