“Entertaing evening”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Went to "Banjo Summit" it was a great show with the best banjo players in the Country. Sounds boring, not in this lifetime. ela Fleck plays a classical piece that made his banjo sound like a piano. The theater has great accoustics. The director is very accommodating the staff is stuffy - it's good but not Carnegie Hall.

“Living History and a Fantastic Modern Venue”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

The Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie, NY was originally called the Collingwood, after its owner, and was built in 1869. It has hosted many notable names throughout its history and, today, continues to do so. Walking into the lobby is to experience the past palpably and the staff go out of their way to enhance that feeling with their polite manner and professional demeanor. The stairways winding up to the balcony, especially, give one the impression of going back in time to another age, perhaps the Gilded Age, to enjoy an evening's entertainment. Even so, the venue is certainly no artifact. The acoustics in the Bardavon are excellent, the seats comfortable, and I don't believe there is a bad seat in the house for viewing the stage. When I was young the Bardavon was a movie theater and I enjoyed films shown there more than anywhere else because of the amazing sound and the ability to see the screen clearly from any seat in the house. In recent times I've experienced the same great time going to concerts there. Bob Dylan even rented the Bardavon a few years ago to rehearse in precisely because the house has such great acoustics. Very enjoyable venue and highly recommended. Parking is available across the street by the Dutchess County Office Building or behind the Bardavon in a municipal lot. Street parking is also available but severely limited. Handicapped accessible.

“Amazing shows”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Bob Dylan rehearses his band here before he goes on tour. Enough said? All kinds of great shows. I like the live HD opera broadcasts from the Met which at $20 are one of the best bargains on earth.
