Had heard of this place in passing a few months ago. When I decided a trip to New England would need to go up the NY Thruway, I made plans to spend a day here and the nearby FDR home. Didn't spend as much time at FDR home because we had too much fun here. I grew up a half hour south and always loved the beauty of the Hudson River. Walking this bridge really allows you to experience its majesty to the fullest. The bridge was more crowded than I expected for a Thursday morning. However it wasn't overly crowded and everyone was in a great mood. The other walkers made the experience even better! My wife had a flashback to our walk on the Great Wall. What a perfect description. My wife sat on a bench half way across as my twelve-year-old daughter and I walked the entire bridge and back. We all felt like our time was well spent. Be sure to take time to visit here while passing through the Hudson Valley region. Don't take this for granted locals!!!

Tried to find night before but it closes at sunset, so returned in morning and managed to park free near entrance. Long walk from car park to bridge itself. Lots of educational. and interesting signs to inform along the walkway. Amazing original 1888 engineering, updated 2009. Fine views of Hudson River and Valley. Imagine not so pleasant with wind blowing.

About 30-40 minutes each way. Very nice views. A great work out. Cant beat the price (free)! Bring a camera and wear comfy shoes.

An awesome place to go for a scenic walk, especially in the Fall. Keep your ears and eyes open for inconsiderate bikers. Starting on the Highland side makes for a shorter walk to the views. Consider doing the loop and a visit to Fanny Reese Park right next door.

I have walked this many times. Especially beautiful in the fall looking up the river framed by the gilded maples. Breathtaking. Free for now. Im sure NY will start charging eventually like they do with everything else. But worth the trip!
