My husband took the walk with his mother and our daughter while visiting Marist for Family Weekend. They really enjoyed the view!

perfect place to walk and a beyond compare view. Safe as it is heavily use, flat, and no traffic. There are signs all along with the history of the walkway and free parking.

There really is nothing like the Walkway Over the Hudson anywhere else. It's a wonderfully easy, level walk with spectacular views of the Hudson River Valley. It doesn't feel crowded even though there can be lots of other people. There are some benches for resting, but it takes a while to reach them. We accessed the walkway from the Poughkeepsie side where there are two parking lots right at the start of the walkway. One, paved, is run by the State park system. The other, an unimproved surface, is run by a private party. Both lots charge a flat $5.00. Free parking is available on the public streets below, with access to the walkway by staircase. An elevator is planned for the near future. There are food vendors, picnic tables and port-a-johns at each end of the walkway. It is simply a must-do activity if you are in the area!

This is one of my favorite locations to take out-of-town guests, because it is quick, centrally located, and gives a stunning view of the Hudson river and the valley. We prefer to park on the Highland side. There are porta-johns and food concession kiosks on the Highland side. The walkway really seems like a large sidewalk, you don't get a sense of "OH NO! I'M GOING TO FALL OFF!" wear comfortable shoes, overall it's about a mile each way, so you might get tired, or have to carry children who get tired. There are informative facts posted on the rails, so you can get a little history. Good for about 1-2 hours, depending if you walk the whole way, and stop for a snack. People can ride bikes, and walk dogs on this too, but everyone seems to respect each other's space and enjoy the trail.
