“MORALLY AND ETHICALLY WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed April 27, 2009

we had booked the reservation for the Presidential suite for my son's and his new wife for their honeymoon months in advance. We were physically at the hotel and made such reservation with our credit card. We were told by several people that were showing us the rooms that both my son and his wife being handicapped would receive special needs and care. On several occasions before the date, I was in contact with the personnel and stressed the point of them being taken care of. After the flawless wedding and reception at Timber Point Country Club, they were taken by limousine in full dress to Danfords Inn. To my shock and dismay I got a phone call from the bride's sister telling me that the wedding couple were not in the room and was told they were not allowed in the room unless the hotel receive the credit card physically. HERE IS MY POINT. IF AN ESTABLISHED COMPANY SUCH AS DANFORDS SEES A NEWLY WED AND HIS WIFE, ARRIVED BY LIMOUSINE, WITH SPECIAL NEEDS WOULDN'T YOU THINK THEY WOULD DO THE RIGHT THING? (OBVIOUSLY NOT!) EMBARASSED, SHAMED AND DISGUSTED. THANK GOD SOMEBODY WAS WITH THEM AND HAD TO USE THEIR CREDIT CARD UNTIL WE PHYSICALLY GET DOWN TO THE HOTEL AFTER THE PHONE CALL IN ORDER FOR THE NEWLY WEDS TO GET IN THE ROOM.
"IT IS NOT OUR POLICY" EVEN THOUGH I SPOKE TO THEM TWICE THAT DAY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE NEWLY WEDS WILL BE WELL TAKEN CARE OF ON THEIR ARRIVAL.

I BELIEVE THIS IS MORALLY AND ETHICALLY WRONG AND SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS.

OUTRAGED!!!!

Drove from NYC for a one night trip to visit distant relatives. Danford's looks great from the drive from the west. It is next to the dock with a big ferry to Bridgeport behind it. Checked in at 2pm. The brusque young girl gave us key cards to B-2, a "harbor view" room in the next building over. They give you a hanger for your car's rear view, and you can park in any non-resident lot in PJ. The lot behind the hotel was full, so we parked a block away, on the street. Wheeled the luggage down the side walk, across the street and up the outside stairs to find room B-2 had not yet been cleaned. Back to the main building where a friendlier gentleman sent us to J-5. A "village view'" king across the street, also second floor outside stairs. Lots of luggage hauling for us, but to be fair, the gentleman did ask if we needed help with it. In both rooms, B-2 and J-5, the walkway is between your windows and the view, so if you don't want folks walking by looking into your room, you keep the curtains closed. So for these two rooms, "the view" is irrelevant. J-5 is an average size room with shower (no bath) but it's a great shower with modern fixtures. Flat screen TV (not HDTV, I think). Clean, Modern bedding. Coffee maker.

Some good and bad aspects of the stay: Need ice? "Just" walk across the street to the main building and ask in the bar. It's a lively bar, good service and good beer. Lots of happy wedding goers in the lobby. Fireplace. Quibbles: No Sunday paper for sale on the property.

And here's the kicker. We dined at the relatives who live just a mile up the hill, and drove back to the hotel on a dark, rainy night. I parked in one of the large parking areas behind (but not close enough to) the J building, but hey, I parked in a RESIDENT parking area, not the NON-RESIDENT parking area next to it. So on Sunday morning I found a soggy parking ticket under the windshield of my rental car. Ready for this? $100. I guess I have to pay it. Live and learn. If we go back, we might look for other lodging settings, unless someone invites us to a wedding party at Danfords.

We were very surprised at how nice these rooms were. All were recently updated. The waterfall shower was especially nice. But I get quite upset when hotels try to charge for room internet access!! Plus they did not even have a complimentary hotel PC for us to use.

a group of friends arrived from all over for a wedding in early november. we had 4 or 5 rooms in the cute cottage buildings and walked all over the pedestrian friendly town. our room was on the 3rd floor, steep steps are tough on my sports knees, but it was a lovely king suite, with couch area for our friends to come by and visit. the wedding recepetion was onsite, we had a fabulous time, ate well, and loved the fireplace in the lobby. we walked about to a bakery, a vintage shop, had a pedicure, and a fabulous fresh juice bar. its all right there by the water and very scenic when the leaves are changing colors. the wedding buffet, dinner, and brunch were outstanding. loved it!

Danford's has really been spruced up. Rooms are scattered across a half-dozen medium sized buildings in downtown Port Jeff, right on the harbor.

Front desk staff were relatively indifferent to our needs and service at breakfast was a bit slow.

We had to walk to the third floor through a complicated hallway arrangement to get to our room, but it was a great value for $99/night, which presumably reflects the depths of offseason. Nice linens, lighting, bathroom (excellent showerhead), window treatments, alarm clock. Internet access is $10/night - ugh.

On an earlier visit we had dinner at the main restaurant and were pleased with the food, the service, and the wine list.

We would definitely recommend Danford's over the other choices in the area.

My company has been booking our sales meeting at Danfords for the past three years and we had always been satisfied in the past. After returning to the hotel this year we were al presently surprised. The quality of the rooms were upgraded 200% and outfitted with all of the latest ammenities you would find in a quality hotel. I was very comfortable, being a big guy a substantial mattress is important. The pillow top beds were great.
We will definately be booking next year, the attendees seemed to really enjoy the lounge and new restaurant. A much more contemporary feel that matches the new rooms. Between staying up late in the lounge and sleeping on the new beds, a few of us were late for our meetings. I will probably return to this hotel in the summer time with my wife to really enjoy the hotel and the town. From what I'm told this is quite a busy area in summer. We'll see.

I wish I would have known......
Balcony offers no semblance of privacy. From the pictures it looks as though your balcony overlooks the waterfront directly. What you don't see is that there are a row of buildings infront of you at ground level, and a parking lot. This means that people from the parking lot are looking right at you, and people walking through the row are able to see you overhead.

The Hotel, is actually a collection of quaint little buildings, separated from the main office, and the resturant. The entrance to the room you may be staying in, could be on the "street side", over a store, or over another hotel ammenity. Actually, your room can be across the street over the other buildings in the village area. Ours was over the hotel spa, and under a bunch of party animals. The floor creaked, doors banged, music vibrated the walls.

The website says that there are premium channels in the room. There aren't. There is basic cable. No dvd player.. plan on entertaining yourself in the room.. =D

Dinner at the Wave (the hotel restaurant) was disappointing. Our steaks were charbroiled on the outside and dry on the inside. They were served with a little flower on top... awwwww. The lobster tail was absolutely delicious.. served with some heated oil that was supposed to mimic butter? No soup, or salad. It cost 65.00. each for just the "Surf and Turf". I have had better meals at Red Lobster, and it included the damn salad... lol. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind spending that kind of money on a good meal.. but this meal was like Sizzler, trying to be Tavern on the Green, and failing miserably.

We wanted to order room service at 10:30 am.. and was told that we could not order any food until 11:30... which was brunch. So we wound up getting dunkin doughnuts.

The room was beautiful. Unfortunately no bath tub.. but the rain shower was amazing. I want hubby to install one right away. We had the king size suite.. so there was a semi private sitting area, as well as the bedroom area. The bed was cozy, everything was clean. There was a mini refridgerator, a coffee maker.. and the hair dryer was full sized and worked well. There is no smoking in the room, however you can smoke on the balcony. There is a place to deposit your cigarette, however no ash tray .

Despite my complaints we do want to come back. The view was awesome, the shops in the area were nice to explore.. The overall feel of the place was pleasant. Next time.. we will have our meals at one of the local restaurants (there are many to choose from). Bring some of our own coffee, creamer.. and mugs (they leave you one packet of reg coffee and one of decaf. and two cups). We will attempt avoid rainy weather so as not to be stuck in our room. We will also try to get a private balcony preferably on the 3rd floor so as not to be disturbed by creaking floors and music.
