I work in the restaurant industry. it is more difficult and challenging than one can imagine, Things go wrong. When they do, management needs to apologize, buy a round of drinks or desserts for the table, and make sure the rest of the guests' experience is positive.
That didn't happen at Pace's. We had a 5:30 reservation on Thanksgiving for 12ppl. When we arrived, we could see that our table was EMPTY but mgmt couldn't find 12 chairs for the table We waited 30 minutes for mgmt to find 12 chairs. The lobby was crowded, so half of our party had to wait outside in the cold. When our table was finally ready at 6:00, no one apologized. In fact, their snooty attitude implied that they were doing us a favor by finally seating us.
We ordered appetizers, turkey dinner and dessert. Food was mediocre (not bad, but nothing special). Price came to $65.00 per person BEFORE tip. A cold seafood platter appetizer of 5 shrimp, 3 tablespoons of lump crabmeat and 5 slices of mozzarella, was $79.00. My relatives ordered steak (after all, this is a steakhouse) and said it was "average". My aunt ordered a gluten-free meal that was prepared with gluten and had to be sent back. Again no one apologized. Cheesecake was very good. Apple pie was not.
Waiters disappeared into the bar to watch a football game and we had to wait 45 minutes for our check. When it finally arrived, we had been overcharged by $35 for 2 desserts and 1 extra cocktail that we hadn't ordered. Again, no one apologized.
I asked the waiter to ask the manager to buy us a round of drinks for the poor service we experienced (30 minute wait outside in the cold, 45-minute wait for our check, gluten meal served to someont that cannot eat gluten, overcharged check), and the manager said NO.
We won't ever go back. The manager should be fired.
And anybody with any sense - or who knows what good food should taste like - should not step in the door to this restaurant.
