“What a steal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2012

I knew the Tara Inn when it first opened over 30 years ago. It was a bargain then and it is a bargain now. Understand this is a funky restaurant with a loyal following and certainly not fine dining. It makes no pretense. The plates are paper and the silverware (except for steak knives) is plastic. The menu is written on paper plates stapled to the wall. Was back there for the first time in ten years last week. Had 6 huge fried shrimp, rib eye steak, chili, salad, french fries and onion rings. Price? 9.99. My wife had 1 1/4 lb lobster with fries, soup and salad. Price? 9.99. of course we could have had the $1 burger or the $1.50 roast beef sandwich...all steals. It has a huge bar crowd every night where, during Happy Hour, you can pay as little as 5 cents (yes cents) for your drink. If you are anywhere near Port Jefferson don't miss it.

“Can't beat the price!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

Fantastic prices and good food. Happy Hour is 4-8pm every day. We bought 2 waters and a Sam Adams on tap. I picked a # from 1 - 5 and ended up getting the drinks for 10cents each. Score! It is VERY casual and cash only. It felt good eating 2 decent meals (a lobster dinner and a cheeseburger dinner) and getting those drinks and walking out with change from a $20 bill.

“A Treat at Tara's”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

Tara's is a 3*** for food but a 4**** for experience. A bar with a room for eating, it fills up by 5 PM and is rocking with music, simple food and fun.
We recently went there with three generations and had a great time, nice cold beer, small lobster dinner, crab leg platter, fried fish plate, plus soup, salad each under 10 dollars.
During Happy Hour, my daughter pulled a tab to see if there was a discount on beverages, she paid 10 cents for an $8.50 pitcher of beer.
Service was attentive, however, you place your own order and pay at the counter, wait staff bring water and food.
