I have seen many restaurants come and go in this spot. But this restaurant has been pretty popular from the start. I have been here a couple of times already. Service is fast and good. Food is good too. Wish there are more seafood on the menu - mostly shrimp, salmon, and tilapia. Cute decore, but it can get pretty noisy if you sit close to a loudy group.

Lunch time was great - as you can get plenty of food at reduced price.

The problem is to find a parking spot on weekend evening!

Well, my spouse and I truly love Mexican establishments, and were thrilled to see one open up in Pleasantville. However, we have been largely disappointed with our experiences at Don Juan. The food is average but enjoyable, in that it is tasty (as most Mexican food is), but never truly tastes as fresh, or as unique as it should... For instance, their enchilada, burrito and chimichanga all taste about the same, and their dishes do not contain enough fresh vegetables, or black beans. But, again, it is tasty, and not overly expensive, so it’s worth trying for yourself...

Our biggest complaint has to be the logistics of seating and service. The restaurant is not that big, so you often find yourself waiting in an uncomfortable corner of the main dining room - EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE RESERVATIONS. The last time we visited Don Jaun we had a reservation for 730pm, but were not seated until 8:45pm (and this was after other customers were angry about not being seated at all). I usually have no problem hanging out by the bar for a few minutes, but this was well beyond a few minutes. Also, there is no real leadership in dealing with overcrowding. Both times we went, it happened to a Friday and Saturday night, and both times the hostesses seemed overwhelmed and unsure of how to seat people who were coming in…

While I know this review sounds negative, I want to be honest and say that I do plan on giving Don Juan another chance to redeem themselves, especially considering how nice their employees and owners seem to be… Hopefully this review will serve as construction criticism, and our concerns will be addressed before we return…

The food here was OK nothing to rave about. The food was much too salty for my taste.
The booths are so unconfortable. They are hard as a rock and too short in the seat. They give you a lot of food but would prefer a better quality and less salt. The salsa was great so was the marguarita.

Lower Westchester County residents largely have two types of sit-down, reservation-taking restaurant choices. The first type feature decent food at high prices – places you don’t dislike but don’t frequent because the bill exceeds the experience (for example, Pleasantville’s Mediterraneo). The second type features exceptional food at towering prices (Pleasantville’s Iron Horse Grill) – places you return to on your anniversary. With the opening of Don Rodriguez’ Don Juan Mexican restaurant residents finally have a choice that falls slightly higher on the food quality spectrum and slightly lower on the price spectrum (though certainly not cheap). Local residents also have an outlet for their traditional Mexican cravings less expensive than Ossining’s “Guadalajara” and better presented than Ossining’s “South of the Border”. Don Juan’s food defies questioning with robust portions of well-prepared straight traditional (to the theme not to actual Mexican cuisine) dishes. At $7 a pop, standard margaritas clearly represent the way to go and a decision that the generic wine and beer lists make unassailable (Mexico brews decent beer and while Spain is not Mexico, tempanillo makes for a much better pairing than the nonspecific chardonnay on offer). Ask to sit in the front dining room if you are with young kids or you and the girls plan to do a couple of tequila shots and the back dining room if you on a date or a date night. In short, support should be shown for this reasonable dining option.
