“Great Michigan Sauce with a kick”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

The north 9 stand has been recently renovated after the Spring 2011 floods. Clean and comfortable. One of the owners was there the day I stopped in and he kept a watchful eye on the service.

Used to be a Clare and Carl fan, but maybe McSweeneys has passed them.

You cannot visit here without trying a Michigan.

“A Michigan is to Plattsburgh what a Coney is to Brooklyn. This is one of the best.”
Reviewed January 2, 2011

Pull up to one of their places and wait two minutes, if that and the waitress will be out to take your order. But why miss the hustle and bustle of the inner workings of these beautifully designed, well managed and extremely clean greasy spoon fast food restaurants.

Now do not take me wrong - that was and is a complement. They know what their niche is and they excel at it. Burgers, homemade fries, dogs and shakes. It is straight forward, fast and good.

To order a Michigan like the locals simply order " two with", "two without, " two buried" or a sauce burger. Ok, translation - 'two with' = two skinless frankfurters with Michigan sauce on top with rew onions on top of that; 'two without' = the same but no onions; 'two buried'= the same as #1 but the raw onions are under the Michagan sauce; 'sauce burger is just Michigan sauce on a burger roll, usually.

Michagan sauce is similar to chili sauce or the topping of a coney dog. It's a thin meat sauce with secret spices, though everyone in Plattsburgh has Nitzis' secret recipe.

“A great place to grab a bite! Everything...”
Reviewed August 5, 2010

A great place to grab a bite! Everything is yummy, my kids get a real kick out of ordering "weenie burgers" (just smaller burgers, great for young appetites), and the staff is always friendly and helpful in explaining all the ways you can order a Michigan.

“What a treat”
Reviewed August 22, 2008

McSweeney's is a pleasant slice of Americana from yesteryear. Home made fries, North Country favourite Michigan Red Hots, fabulous hamburgers and if you wish curb service with those trays that hook onto your car window. They also have outdoor eating on picnic tables. Inside you will find a super clean diner with spotless bathrooms.

A must when travelling through Plattsburgh. We visited the Route 9 north location.
