“Incredible food”

I love this resturant! The food is always amazing and fresh... The momos are so delicious, the veggie are my favorite, of course, they're all good, and I absolutely love the red sauce they're served with- I could put it on everything! The staff is always very friendly and the owners are equally friendly and sweet! Great spot for authentic himalayan food surprisingly in downtown plattsburgh!

We were very excited to find this great place while we were in Platsburgh. The waitress was a friend of the owner...she was extreamely pleasant and took the time to explain the menu to us. We had the Chicken momos, boil potatoes, and a dish made with chicken and noodles...I think it was the special?????( don't remember the name) Would love to know how it was called!!!!....It was Excellente ! we will have to plan another little trip to Platsburgh.....just to be able to go to eat at Himalaya again!

“A North Country Surprise”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

We had dinner at Himalaya on November 16th and the memory of that experience continues to come up in our conversations. The place was just opening up as we arrived and there were two other couples already waiting. We were seated at a comfortable table near the back of the restaurant which gave us a nice view of the simple but attractive decor. The owner came to the table and explained the dishes and even described the traditional way of eating. The menu has Nepalese, Tibetan and Bhutanese dishes. They are mostly based on chicken, beef or pork although there are several vegetarian offerings and one salmon dish. The spice level is fairly high but the chef will prepare mild versions of every dish for the American palate. Unfortunately I didn't take notes from the menu and can't remember the names of our meals. I had a dish made of finely diced pork in a spicy tomato based sauce and my dining partner had the salmon entree which is made with an array of spices in a yogurt based sauce. The meals are served on a platter with smaller bowls holding each part of the presentation. A stainless bowl holds the primary meat and sauce, two smaller bowls have a lentil based accompaniment and some very spicy glazed carrots, respectively. A large heap of nicely cooked rice is placed in the center of the platter and alongside that is a piece of flatbread very similar to Nan. The ingredients are very fresh and the aroma's coming from the kitchen added to the ambiance and stimulated our appetites. The meals lived up to their aromatic advertising. In fact they were even better tasting. Service in the restaurant was attentive but never overbearing. It was a relaxed and very enjoyable meal. Prices were a little high for the area but well worth the cost. I heartily recommend this restaurant as an escape from the usual chain offerings that are so prevalent in this town.

“The reviews are all accurate...You have to eat here”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

After reading the reviews on this site we knew we had to try this place. We went on Saturday night just as they were opening. The owner wasn't there, however her friend was filling in for her. What a lovely lady. She helped us decipher the menu and made some recommendations for us to try. We started with the "momo", which are a kind of dumpling. We had an assortment of chicken, beef and vegetable. All were wonderful and we especially enjoyed the beef. For the main course I had the "sauted thenthuk" (not sure about the spelling, but it's listed as their special and currently most popular dish). My partner had the "Tsipsha", which is a rib dish. We both enjoyed our meals as well as the peaceful ambiance of the restaurant. Each dish is made fresh from scratch. We'll be back here again.....soon!
