“Feeding the chickadees from your hands is too cool!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2012

This is a beautiful park with many hiking trails, but the best thing is the nature center trails where you can truly feed the chickadees (and sometimes nuthatches and titmice) from your hands. Totally awesome!

“A Park For All Seasons”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2012

If you are looking for an above average park experience, Mendon Ponds Park is for you. They have a multitude of trails, non-motorized boating, picnic areas, playgrounds, lodge rentals, geo-caching, large hills for sledding, snow shoeing, and more. Anyone in the family can enjoy something this park offers.
If you have young children and have a stroller to push, try the trails that run off of the Wild Wings Sanctuary, which houses injured birds of prey.
The sanctuary itself has a paved trail along the large habitat cages. They even have a bobcat. Although there is no set fee to enter, they suggest a donation and it is wheelchair accessible. It takes no more than 30 minutes to walk-through, but it is worth the visit.
There are several trails that start from the sanctuary and offer an opportunity for the young and old to feed birds out of the palm of their hands. So bring some birdseed on a visit, since they do not sell the feed on site.
Along those trails, the park has placed mini hands-on learning centers that allow for many questions to be answered about the flora, wildlife and more.
If looking for a bigger hiking challenge, try the Devil's Bathtub trail. Steps have been put in around the glacier-formed "tub" and can be quite steep at times.
Besides the boat launch for the biggest pond, there are several spots that allow easy access to a canoe.
This park is ideal for last minute picnics because even in the busy summer, there are many spots to comfortably enjoy solitude, while still keeping an eye on kids at the playground.
