We are a family with two kids ages 12 and 14. We stayed in suite 13. Everything was clean and comfortable. The king bedroom was cozy and the bed very comfortable. The Futon in the living room was great and they were very accomodating in giving us a air mattress for our son, so the kids would not have to share the futon. Everyone slept well. The kitchen was great to make breakfast, but we really did not use it much. I was leary about road noise, and I'm happy to say it was never a problem. Owners are very nice and helpful. Breakfast snacks available in office were a great added bonus. Close to town and our family that we were visiting. We will definitely be back on our next visit to the woodland valley. :)

This was a lovely little place. We wanted to spend Labor Day weekend in the Catskills (escaping from New York City) and totally lucked out with a reservation at this lodge. There was a last minute cancellation and we were able to grab it! Great spot with lovely owners. They were super helpful with suggesting restaurants and good hiking trails. The river runs right behind property. - Great place for a morning run. I would recommend it to any friends planning to travel to the area.

PLUS - Good DVD selection on loan in lobby & great coffee avail as soon as you wake up.

Four of us stayed here whilst on a road trip up to Montreal from New York. The owners were very nice and welcoming, I think we disrupted their plans a little as we were late checking in, but you'd never have guessed it as they were so nice! The location is great, marvellous outdoor space with BBQ's for each cabin - which we made good use of as we seemed to have the great outdoors to ourselves that night.

The bad: the cabins are very basic, old, tired, dirty and ours was very smelly - to be fair, the other couple we were with had a nicer cabin, which wasn't as shabby as ours, but it's my review.......not theirs!.

You get great value for money here, but even with the cheap prices, i'd expect cleanliness. I think the owners are working hard to bring this place up to scratch and they clearly care about their business. Hopefully it won't be too long before this place is brought up to the standard it deserves.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, though of course we're sorry to hear you didn't completely enjoy your time here.

We try to make clear on our website that our place was built in the 40s and 50s, and that we are vintage, rustic lodging. As we continue to make improvements, there are still certainly areas that could be described as older, which occasionally might be mistaken as dirt. As you can see from our other reviews, cleanliness is our absolute priority here and we would never offer anything but an absolutely clean room or cottage for our guests. If you had let us know what the problem was during your stay, we would have been more than happy to correct it. I can see from the schedule that your cottage was occupied for several nights before your stay, and there are times when cooking smells can linger from stay to stay. We do our best, but sometimes we’re forced to wait for odors to dissipate. Also, your cottage had a brand-new bed, so I’m not sure why your sleep quality got such a low rating.

It is difficult to piece together the reasons for your particular issue after the fact, so we are left to just apologize and assure you that your experience was atypical. Thank you.

What a surprise to actually find an authentic Catskills motor lodge, and the best part it's owned and run by a young urbanite transplanted to the country couple that understands the need for city folks to get away from it all with the authentic rustic charm...
But at the same time provides excellent Wifi and cable TV.
Nothing prefab country about this place! All the original details with knotty pine walls and cozy rooms, nice quilts, clean and comfy rooms and lovely conformable places to sit outside. Old catskills fun. The beautiful Esopus on the back road for tubing, wading, or the fantastic swimming spot in the creek the owner told us about!

Cell service has come to this part of the Catskills region!!!
I was surprised how happy to be forced to get away from using cell phones. .

We just stayed for the weekend and the owners were cool and helpful. For me, it's the perfect weekend away - no frills cabins right off the highway, quiet, with a place to build a fire in back. They also have free wireless internet, dvd players in the rooms and a small but smart collection of dvds to borrow, coffee and muffins, fruit, etc. in the morning. We stayed with friends who had a small baby. I would definitely go back.

We like to take our small dog on vacation, and this place is great for travelers with dogs. It is perfectly clean - a rarity in places that take dogs. I hope dog owners are respectful about keeping this place as nice as it currently is.

We stayed in cottage 3. Even though it shares a wall with another room, we liked it. It has a nice gas fireplace and a refrigerator and kitchen.

It is important to be aware that this place is nothing fancy - just clean and priced right, which is perfect in my book.

This is a great place to stay for a week or weekend out of the city.
The people are very helpful; the cottage was well-kept, and the scenery was beautiful. Great for walking, biking, and local touring.
It's one of the nicer places to get away from an urban center and just chill.

We stayed in a cottage for a weekend of hiking and checking out the area with our two young kids.

The proximity is great -- a couple hundred yards from Esopus Creek, a few miles from the Woodland Valley campsite and trail head, and just outside of Phoenicia.

The grounds of the Lodge are no-frills, but there are a couple of nice hammocks and a firepit in the center that we made good use of. Each of the cottages has a firebox grill outside, which we also used (and hopefully didn't smoke out our neighbors). The scene is not exactly rustic (more like we were in a cottage in a neighborhood backyard), but the kids had fun hanging out. The firepit and benches (with lots of cut wood, downed from the winter storms) were really a nice centerpiece, and with a group, the lodge could be a lot of fun in the evening.

The cottage itself was clean, but worn (though the kitchen had a new fridge and stove, which we made use of, and new flooring). A couple of new mattresses (and perhaps a new shower-stall) would have made all the difference. But the linens were clean, and my wife didn't get skeeved, so that was a plus.

I have to say, though, that what made me happiest about staying at the Lodge was the family who owns it. It's clear that they're working hard on the property. They have two happy kids (seemingly). And they radiate kindness. So all of that is to the good, and makes up for any lack of fancy linens or finishes.

At the end of the day, this place is perfect for trailheads hiking without a tent, or for folks who are looking for a basic place to stay with good access to the area. I probably wouldn't pick it as a place to impress the ladies, but then, I don't have to impress the ladies much anymore, and our kids were happy to build a fort with the extra blankets and play hide and seek in the cottage as the rain came down this morning.
