If Bernie and Susan hadn't known so much about all of the amazing places in the area, we might have never left the house! :-) Los Gatos is an AMAZING B&B and definitely a highlight of our trip to the Finger Lakes.
The Sage Room was beautiful - from the decor of the bedroom to the tile work and vanity in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, the room was quiet - it was a hard place to leave in the morning and a fabulous place to come back to after a day on the wine trail.
The Breakfast part of this B&B is certainly not an afterthought either. What incredible food!! Made from scratch and using seasonal fruits, each course of the meal was delightful.
Los Gatos is an absolute treat and an ideal place to clear your mind and stop to smell the roses... and dalias... and lilies... and sunflowers (did I mention the flowers were beautiful too?). We can't wait to go back.

We were so lucky to have found Los Gatos B&B. We went to the Finger Lakes for a long weekend and wanted something centrally located. There are a ton of choices out there. Los Gatos was right in the middle of the Finger Lakes and was very reasonably priced. Everyone had great things to say about it online, so we booked it. They were right! This place is such a gem! The location is in Penn Yan, which allows for easy exploration of Keuka and Seneca Lakes. We drove all around both lakes and went to wineries, shops, and hiked the Watkins Glen gorge. Burney and Susan were extremely helpful in recommending wineries and restaurants based on our tastes. While we were there, the Mennonite Quilt and Craft auction was being held. We were interested in going, so Susan gave us tips on how to get a good deal on a quilt and how much we should expect to pay. We ended up buying a quilt top. Since it isn't finished with batting and backing, Susan went above and beyond and offered to arrange to have it finished by a local Mennonite quilter that she knows. She will arrange for shipping it to us once it is finished. Talk about service - she will still be helping us out months after we stayed there! That is the key difference between Los Gatos and other B&B's - service. Burney and Susan are as nice as can be and are so well informed about the area. They are always open for conversations about the area and willing to help you plan your trip so you get the most out of your vacation. They are kind and generous people who made our vacation so much more wonderful than it would have been had we not stayed at Los Gatos. And we can't forget to mention the food! Oh my goodness, it is so amazing! I wish we could have stayed for a week to see what else they have on their menus! They even make their own jams to eat at breakfast. If you love the jams as much as I did, you can even purchase them to enjoy at home! My husband travels often for work and made the comment that he "would rather stay at Los Gatos than the Ritz Carlton any day!". The service and the food and the comfort of being at a home make it so much more enjoyable than a stay at even the fanciest of hotels.

Burney and Susan Baron are very gracious, thoughtful hosts whose comfortable accomodations are excellent. Their breakfasts are truly gourmet and reflect a great deal of thought and creativity. Breakfast in the gazebo with its beautiful view of Senca Lake was a treat. My wife and I also appreciated Burney and Susan's vast knowledge of the area. All of their recommendations for attractions and restaurants were based upon their personal experiences. If the evening sky is clear, do not miss Burney's astronomy lesson.

We are wine writers and set up a trip to the Finger Lakes for our summer vacation. With 22 wineries scoped out for 3 days we looked for a central location to hang our hat at night. After the first B&B we selected didn't work out (way too noisy) we scrambled and checked out Trip Advisor to see our options. Los Gatos in Penn Yann had great recommendations, so we called Los Gatos and, fortunately, they had room. Our two nights there really made the vacation. Susan and Burney are gracious hosts who make you feel at home without intruding on your privacy. The house itself is ideal for relaxing, with a great patio, deck, gazebo, and gardens. We stayed in the Blue Room ($129/night,) which was furnished with a reasonably comfortable queen bed. Only pet peeve--no full-length mirror anywhere in the house.

As others have noted, the breakfast is truly to die for. Day one Burney made Peach Duch Babies and from-scratch English muffins. Day two he offered up blueberry-cheesecake pancakes topped with fresh blueberry compote. The grape juice was home-made from three grape varietals. Even the jam is homemade (and for sale--we bought two jars of blueberry)

My husband is not a B&B fan. He agreed to stay at one out of the goodness of his heart. But I couldn't get him out of Los Gatos...I think he was ready to move in! Strong recommendation.

Burney and Susan put an amazing amount of effort into making their property a fun place to be. This year they introduced a tasting garden with exotic as well as usual fruits and vegetables. Breakfast is a culinary delight with everything but the breakfast meat home made. Fresh flowers grace the table and rooms every other day. They will research for you and make informed recommendations to make your visit better. They are there when you want them, and invisible when appropriate. If you don't enjoy your stay here you should be at a Red Roof Inn!

My husband and I just recently returned from a trip to the Finger Lakes area and stayed the better part of the week at Los Gatos. Initially we thought of staying at a couple of B&Bs, but Los Gatos was well situated and Susan was so nice on the phone that we decided to book with them exclusively. I'm so glad we did. Both Burney and Susan were immediately welcoming and friendly. They really did think of everything pertaining to their guests' comfort and needs. A complimentary refrigerator full of various sodas & water is available for guests, as well as menus and books about the area.

We stayed in the room on the upper floor with a balcony and sitting area that overlooked their gardens, pool and Penn Yan. It was beautiful to wake up to. By far, one of the most comfortable B&Bs we've ever stayed in - and we've been to a few!

Burney is a wonderful cook and every morning we had something delicious to try: individual Dutch babies (popover meets pancake), his "inside out" omelet, blueberry pancakes, homemade English muffins, various homemade jams and jellies, and this wonderful apple cider syrup. I bought several for the trip back home.

A special treat: Burney took out his telescope on our last night so we could view the night sky. My husband was so happy to learn of their mutual interest in astronomy. Susan also recommended several wineries and restaurants to visit. This really helped us narrow down our choices. Our favorite winery was Dr. Konstantin Frank. Definitely not to miss are a couple area restaurants - Dano's and Suzanne Fine Regional Cuisine (both in Lodi). We had very special dinners there and the views of lake at sunset are gorgeous and so romantic.

We definitely recommend Los Gatos and hope to visit again soon.

We stayed at Los Gatos B&B in Penn Yan, NY on Thursday evening, June 18, 2009. Burney came out to greet us immediately upon our arrival and made us feel genuinely welcomed as he helped us with our luggage into an oversized and beautifully decorated room. Our first impression of the house was that it was immaculately clean and well maintained with the guests’ comfort in mind. We were the only guests that evening and were given a complimentary room upgrade. The room had A/C, a ceiling fan, TV, a queen sized sleigh bed with excellent mattress, large modern bathroom with a new ceramic tiled shower, elongated toilet, and a large luxury bowl sink built into a refinished antique cabinet as a vanity – all very tastefully done. There was an abundance of amenities from a fully stocked refrigerator with beverages and a beautiful country view. If you needed anything at all, it was at your fingertips from local menus and information on area attractions to winery maps. Burney was very helpful in suggesting restaurants and places to visit. When we arrived back after dinner, Susan came out to greet us and they both chatted with us for a while. They are lovely and personable hosts. Games and books were available for our use during the rainy evening. Morning brought a gourmet breakfast with fresh ground coffee specially roasted to Los Gatos specifications, fresh juice, poached pears with a sauce made from Susan’s homemade raspberry jam, followed by Susan’s homemade English Muffins and Burney’s Dutch Babies filled with asparagus, ham, & cream sauce topped with cheddar cheese. Burney & Susan gave us just the right amount of private time during breakfast, plus quality time engaging in interesting conversation with them. The gardens are a nice work in progress and we can’t wait to return to see them completed. We toured the property including checking out the new separate cabins which are also available for overnight accommodations. Before leaving, we purchased various flavors of Susan’s homemade jams, their specialty Los Gatos coffee beans and Los Gatos Apple Cider syrup which I can’t wait to try in a recipe (although I did request that they post some of their favorite recipes on the Los Gatos web site). During our 4 nights in the Finger Lakes area, we stayed at a different B&B each night, and found ourselves wishing we had booked Los Gatos for the entire time. Burney and Susan treated us like old friends as opposed to B&B customers. Los Gatos was centrally located within a convenient drive to all the area attractions and by far the nicest B&B that we stayed at. But don’t let the name Los Gatos (meaning The Cats) fool you, the cats were only seen twice. To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger from the Terminator movie, “I’ll be back”. To sum it up: beautifully immaculate home & property, wonderful people, elegant décor, delicious food, and a great value for your money.
