“Best B&B Experience Ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

Every B&B should take lessons from Laurel and Llewellyn! They were the most gracious hosts and made you feel right at home! The delicious breakfasts gave you a little surprise to look forward to each morning, truly professionally prepared and served! They have truly gone above and beyond. I would highly recommend La Belle Vie to anyone going to the Finger Lakes. In fact, you should go out of your way to stay here! The house itself was also amazing! The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms modern and spacious, the decor so charming! My husband and I had such a wonderful experience and will definitely be back!!! What a great way to spend our 2nd anniversary!

Room Tip: Mackintosh was a great room, however next time I really would like the room with the balcony :)

We just returned from a two-night stay at La Belle Vie in Penn Yan. We highly recommend this lovely B&B. A wonderful historic home, with wallpaper and woodworking that is exquisite. It is decorated and furnished with lovely antiques, hand chosen by the owners Llewellyn and Laurel. Lots of thought and love has been put into making this home a lovely place for the owners and their lucky guests.

Llewellyn and Laurel couldn’t have been more accommodating. The breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. We actually had to forego lunch both days we stayed there. We stayed in the MacIntosh Room, which was very cozy, but spacious at the same time. High quality linens and fluffy towels added to the charm of the room. The bathroom is newly remodeled, with a nice large shower with plenty of water pressure and warmth. Most importantly, our room was well maintained and very clean.

Laurel and Llewellyn made a wise decision in opening their wonderful B&B. They are very good at their job. They make you feel like you’re staying with long-time friends, without ever being intrusive. We wish them many years of happiness and prosperity with their lovely inn. We definitely hope to return someday.

My husband and I just spent three wonderful nights at La Belle Vie for my husband's birthday, only to discover Llewelyn's birthday was the same day. Llewellyn and Laurel were excellent hosts and made us feel right at home the minute we walked through the door. The house was beautiful and very tastefully decorated with great antiques. Our room, the Ripley, was very spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom and walk-in closet. Attached to our room was our own fabulous porch where we relaxed each evening sipping a nice glass of wine. The house was perfectly located and was in walking distance to a number of restaurants and shops in the quaint little town of Penn Yan. It was only a short drive to both the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, the Keuka Lake Wine Trail and many other attractions.

We looked forward every morning to Laurel's superb breakfasts, which included such items as fresh baked ginger scones, apple cinnamon muffins, fresh fruit with yogurt and a rasberry sauce, scrambled eggs with cheese and spinach, Laurel's famous lemon-ricotta pancakes topped with fresh strawberries, egg and broccoli quiche and other delightful additions. Llewellyn was an excellent waiter keeping our plates and cups full. Laurel's wonderful breakfasts left us totally full all the way up to dinner. We really enjoyed our morning chats with both Llewellyn and Laurel, who were very informative about everything in the area and gave us many suggestions for interesting things to do during our stay.

If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay while visiting the Finger Lakes area, we highly recommend a stay at this lovely B & B over any hotel. Thank you so much to our hosts for making us feel so comfortable in your home and providing us with a relaxing stay. We will definitely be back if we get a chance to visit the Finger Lakes again!

Room Tip: The Ripley room is the most spacious room and has access to its own porch.

My husband and I stay at La Belle Vie for our 10th anniversary get away. The house has great antique decorations, the bed was comfortable (I slept soundly and I usually don't sleep well in any bed that's not mine!), and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful--we started with ginger-pear scones and fruit with yogurt, then we had scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and baby spinach, lemon-ricotta pancakes with strawberries, sausages, & bacon-wrapped asparagus. And Llewellyn and Laurel were wonderful--they came out of the house to greet us when we arrived, they gave us a map and ideas of things to do in the area (a nice area for historic buildings), and we stayed and talked with them til after noon on the day we checked out! The only thing I would change is to have the tv placed in the room so that you could watch it easily from the bed. We had a great time and will be back when we get the chance!

We choose La Belle Vie based on location & tripadvisor reviews. I have to admit I was slightly suspicious of so many excellent reviews all from 2011. Well it turns out that the B&B has only been open for 4 months and those excellent reviews are well deserved.

The B&B is immaculate and very well appointed. We stayed in the woodland room. The private bathroom was newly remodeled and beautiful. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The room has thoughtful appointments such as a small cooler stocked with water, a ceiling fan & air conditioner.

The hosts (Laurel & Llewellyn) are very gracious hosts & lovely people. They came out and greeted us on our (slightly late) arrival. They accompanied us up to our room and chatted with us for bit which immediately made us feel at home. They were incredibly understanding when our travel plans were cut short due to hurricane Irene.

The one breakfast we did get to enjoy was well planned & executed. Homemade ginger scones, lovely fresh & seasonal fruits accented with a beautiful raspberry sauce and finally a delicious broccoli quiche server with bacon, sausage & savory potatoes.

The location is perfect for just about any activity you may have planned including quick & easy access to both Keuka & Seneca wine trails. If you're looking for a wonderful place to stay for your next Finger Lakes visit, look no further!

We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at La Belle Vie and Llew and Laurel were the perfect hosts. We were fortunate to book a Thursday night so had them all to ourselves for a night. Lucky us! We shared great conversations and even played a game together on Friday night. Their recommendations for wineries, the waterfalls at Watkins Glen and our special anniversary dinner and spa day were spot-on.

The house is lovingly restored with so many lovely antiques, but classic and classy in every way. True period without being cluttered. The focal point throughout the house was the gorgeous wallcoverings, including many William Morris prints. Also, the beautiful and intricate woodwork in the dining room...could have gotten lost in staring at the carved moldings if I weren't so intent on devouring everything on my plate.

Which brings me to Laurel's breakfasts. YUM! Great variety, and loving care in every dish. Clearly the lemon ricotta pancakes are a hit from the reviews. I'll also mention the Ginger Scones, the yogurt and berries, and on the last day, a delicious broccoli quiche, among other fantastic dishes. I also appreciated the spicy hummus-stuffed cherry tomatoes, which were little unexpected pops of bitey flavor.

For us, the Penn Yan location was ideal -- centrally located to both Keuka and Seneca Lakes and their wineries. Also, we like to be able to walk into town for a drink or a bite to eat and La Belle Vie is only 3 or 4 blocks from the main downtown. In doing research we found that the places right on the lake of places with a few acres of land to explore, tend to be more remote and isolated. The last thing we wanted was to come back from a day at the wineries and then get back in our car to find some nightlife. NOT to say that Penn Yan is loaded with nightlife, but we enjoyed our time at Lloyds Limited and Keuka Restaurant (also reviewed). And like I said, our most fun night was the one we spent with Laurel and Llew playing Bananagrams and drinking our favorite Finger Lakes wines!

Thanks, La Belle Vie! We had a wonderful anniversary weekend!

Room Tip: Woodland is lovely & at the end of the hall so most private. Ridley, the biggest, has access to...
