Inn on the Hudson
Ranked #2 of 2 Hotels in Peekskill
Reviewed October 9, 2006

When I saw the pictures of the Peekskill Inn, it looked like an excellent adventure.
...And what an "adventure" it was.
While photos show a wonderful view of the Hudson River and lovely pictures of hilly areas and a sprawling green lawn. DO NOT BE FOOLED.
This place may have had a great view of the Hudson, but included in the view was a nuclear power plant.
The town of Peekskill is rather run down and when braved the steep drive around 35mph curves which went up thousands of feet above the Hudson we were very dissapointed. We did not feel safe staying here.
The hotel's staff was nice enough, but the hotel room they have us was a small cramped space, with a bathroom the size of a closet. The place was very old and reminicent of an old 1940's motel. The room and the bathroom were in disrepair. The carpets were stained and dirty. We were on the first floor and the plastic backed and extemely old curtain would not close. They don't tell you that on the website!
We ended up asking for our money back and driving to Connecticut to find lodging.

my stay at the peekskill inn was a disappointment.
i had a power outage, the hotel was accomodating at
getting me a room, however my problem was with the room, small, the bed was hard and uncomfortable, the
bathroom had a broken faucet in the tub, and the shower leaked, the room could use some paint, especially on the door. the people were friendly, the
restaurant was very accomodating, and i would go back there only.all and all, the room was not worth the price, a bit disappointing.

Our room had a quaint balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains and the Hudson River. We also had a view of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant but that's not the Inn's fault.
The room could use some art on the walls and the remote needed to be fixed (the battery door was held on with duct tape). The bathroom was a little dingey and the toilet seat broke and was not fixed during our stay. The dispenser in the tub was empty so I don't know if it was for soap or shampoo and there weren't any extra rolls of toilet paper.
The service at the restaurant, Henry's on the Hudson, was fabulous. The staff there was extremely friendly and the bartender, Bruce, was fantastic; we kept the poor guy there until 2am.
The main problem came at checkout. Checkout time is 11am and they promptly called our room to make sure we were leaving. When we got to the front desk, we were charged a higher price than what we were quoted over the phone. Should we ever make our way to Peekskill again, we will not be staying at the Peekskill Inn, however, we would eat at Henry's on the Hudson.

I hear that the owners are planning on renovating soon, so perhaps that explains the tired condition of the rooms. Decor was drab, lighting was depressing, and we didn't even risk taking showers (crusty soap dispenser dispensing shampoo and conditioner!? yikes!). The mattress was so hard we may as well have been sleeping on concrete, there were no extra pillows or blankets in the room, and the curtains were cheap cheap cheap. The continental breakfast was stale doughnuts and danishes. The only positive things about this hotel were the view and the friendly staff. I just wish they had put some effort into these last months prior to the renovation. It certainly would not take much to stock the bathroom with little shampoos & conditioners, and maybe a vase of fresh flowers on the table. A new coat of paint might be asking too much right before renovation, but they could have done *something* for those people who are staying at Peekskill in the interim. Tips for the new Peekskill: towels that aren't rough, good mattresses, little bottles of shampoo, walls with color (not white!), venetian blinds, better lighting.
