We were staying in Lake Placid and drove here on a day that was threatening rain. We figured the easier trails would be OK if it rained. It was the perfect place! Very pretty, well-maintained trail system, nicely marked. Pick up a trail map at the center and get recommendations for a route that fits your time and fitness level.

I recently traveled with a group of international friends to "The Wild Center" at Tupper Lake. The Naturalist programs were informative, and the museum itself was an incredible portrayal of the magnificence of the Adirondacks. We really enjoyed the theatre showing of "Wild Adirondacks" and the brilliant photography of Carl Heilman. We attended the local farmer's market and enjoyed a free treat of chocolate chip cookies and milk in recognition of "Member's day." All in all it was a wonderful experience in an incredibly beautiful setting. Two thumbs up for the Wild Center!!!!

I run and the roads in Paul Smith are not great. VIC offered some great "trail runs" I started out on the Loggers Loop but I missed the rainy weather warning :( MUCH better to "run" the shorter loops. People on the paths seems OK with my running past them, not at all irritated - the staff inside the building was very nice and helpful.

DO PICK UP A TRAIL MAP inside the VIC

Great trails -- both in winter for x-country skiing and the rest of the year for hiking. Knowledgable naturalists and interesting interpretive displays.

The Interpretive Center is a gem in the Adirondack Region. For folks who think they already know enough about the area, you will find the emphasis on environmental history and culture to be a delight.

The Center includes many displays and exhibits on local topics. But the very best part is the walking path that takes visitors on routes through many acres of beautiful grounds, streams, bridges, and peeks at local flora and fauna. We enjoyed the variety of birds and other small animals in their natural habitats.

Spend a whole day or just a few hours at the Center, a place of peace and wonder.
