Clark House Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Palenville B&B and Inns
Reviewed November 16, 2009

Christine and Michael are the epitome of what b&b hosts should be--they made us feel so welcome and comfortable without being intrusive or overbearing. It really did feel like we were staying at a friend's or relative's house. The house itself is lovely and you can tell they have put a lot of care into the details in all of the rooms. We loved the French Quarter room, which had a big bay window facing the front of the house, but peeked into the Asian room and found it lovely as well.

Breakfast was fresh and delicious--home-baked quickbreads and coffeecake, fresh fruit, fresh juice, coffee, and tea and perfect portions of the main course, which can be adapted to individual dietary requirements. Michael is also a great resource for other dining options in the area.

We have stayed at a number of b&b's in the area while looking to buy property and while many b&b's are very nice, Christine and Michael really put in that extra effort and care that make their home stand out from the rest. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Clark's house to anyone who asks.

We booked the Clark House for a "mini-moon" after our Columbus Day weekend wedding and were blown away by our stay there. Just driving into the pleasing little parking lot, you have a sense that you are about to enter the comfort zone. We booked the Lodge Suite (a must!), which is possibly the most romantic and cozy spot I've ever seen. There was a fireplace, a jacuzzi and a loft space bedroom. You climb a sturdy ladder to go to bed and wake up in the morning to a grand view of the mountains. My only lesson learned was heat rises, so if you've had the fire going, there's no need to keep the heat on at night, at least not in October. Our hosts were also incredibly lovely -- helpful but not intrusive -- and cooked us up a brilliant meal in the a.m. There are also plenty of little towns in the surrounding area to shop, hike and dine. I highly recommend for a night away with a loved one, a ski weekend or a mini-moon!

My friends and I had the most fabulous time at The Clark House. Not only was the Victorian style house beautiful and the landscaping divine, the decor was both eclectic and lovingly coordinated. The rooms were generally large and cozy and equipped with its own thematic bathrooms.
Breakfast was a feast of culinary favorites whipped up by its owners; Christine and Michael; who are truly the heart and soul of The Clark House. They had made such an impression on us and we cannot wait to return to the Catskills for another breath of fresh air.

The Clark House is lovely with a variety of rooms. I stayed in the least expensive and loved it. Very comfortable bed. Free WIFI. The people that run it are fabulous. Very helpful, sweet and funny. The breakfasts were gourmet. When I came home the common room fireplace was crackling, with fall decorations on the mantel.

I adored this Bed and Breakfast! First off, the property is lovely, both inside and out. The rooms are really unique, each one is decorated according to a theme and instead of being fussy and victorian (there's nothing wrong with that, but it is nice to have an alternative) they are romantic, spacious and lovely. There is an incredible attention to detail and that was much appreciated.

Location is pretty convenient as well, wtih Hunter close by (and a little pub across the street if you get in late and would like a night-cap).

The owners are both very welcoming, warm and helpful. They were attentive and kind.

Breakfast was very tasty as well. They prepare your place settings and when you come downstairs, they are ready to assist!

I loved this B&B and would happily stay there again (and probably will!).

A great find. My wife and I just returned from our stay at the Clark House. Michael and Christina are wonderful hosts. The interior of the building is charming, including the themed bedrooms. Flowers, plants and works of art are everywhere. Housekeeping is immaculate.

The hosts went out of their way to be informative and solicitous. Breakfast was gourmet quality and served in a delightful room.

My wife grew up nearby and said that the collection of antiques here displays a real "sense of place." They are not just antique, but are the household objects that people in this part of the Catskills really used and valued.

Wish our stay could have been longer,

Heading to the area for a local music festival, we wanted to find a place in the mountains to spend a romantic weekend together. We chose the right place! Michael and Christine were very accomodating, making us feel welcome and cared for right from the start! They helped us find exactly what we were looking for -- some hiking, tasty dinner spots, and shopping in the nearby towns. Our room, the American, was cute, clean, and comfortable! Michael and Christine seem to have a real passion for this wonderful escape and undying energy! We hope to be back next year, and want to try all the different rooms!
Breakfast was delicious, too - thank you Michael!
