We stayed in one of the cabins while going to Mountain Jam. Really for our needs very well. We had our own separate building with a patio area near the pool. Very quaint and homey in the midst of a forested area.

The owners were very attentive and helpful. They had heard of problems with water in another cabin and stopped by our cabin to make sure everything was OK with our unit. (We were fine.)

We would definitely be back the next time we're in the area.

This was my family's 18th year at the Catskill Mountain Lodge, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely!!! (We brought our older child here first in July 1997). We were given the room that was redone by some remodelers for a publicity show (it is somewhere on Youtube, but I haven't seen it yet). Al and Kathy were on hand to help us with Wi-Fi and Internet needs, and were always available, even though they were busy with the Horse people!!! The week was noteworthy for improvements made here and there. The game room, or rooms, were redone, and our family played bocce and other games. The stream in the back was part of our exploring, and we found many tadpoles and frogs upstream, plus cattails, which I remember as "punks" as a child, which we used to dry and burn to keep the mosquitoes away. So the natural habitat is pristine and unspoiled. The pool was perfect, and we spent many an hour there, even after supper. The view of the mountains and the sun setting, with trees surrounding the pool, makes for an Emersonian oneness with Nature. We spent so much time at the Lodge that we hardly had a desire to travel far, although we went to the North-South Lake in one direction for canoeing, hiking and swimming, and viewing the old Mountain House site, with the splendid view of the Hudson Valley region. We enjoyed lunch and supper at the Kindred Spirits restaurant, and for breakfast and some supers we drove in the other direction down to Johnny G's. We also visited farms in the area, noticing that things are picking up since the storms that flooded some years ago. The riverbed was reconstructed and plants are growing again where the engineers made a new stone embankment. My family always votes to go to the Catskill Mountain Lodge for our big summer trip. Thanks again Al and Kathy from this New York City resident. If I could (maybe win the Lottery?), I would transplant myself up there too!!!! Thanks again!!!

Room Tip: The rooms in the main building by the pool side have less cars coming by

Thanks for that detailed report! And thanks for being a loyal guest. This is the first review that mentions "Green" initiatives at The Lodge and that was great. We recycle glass, plastic, metal, cardboard and even used cooking oil. We also have replaced most light bulbs with CFLs and LEDs in the hotel and restaurant. Our newer heating and hot water systems, freezers and other appliances are also highly rated for efficiency. We're near one of the oldest wildlife preserves in the nation and believe in doing our part to ensure our environment is taken care of for present and future generations. Once again, thanks for taking time to mention the Green aspects of our hotel.

Although this is not a 5 star hotel but it is very nice. Remember your in the mountains! We stayed in cabin 18 I believe. It was really cute. The owners are amazing! I called so many times asking questions! Instead of the owners welcomed us w open arms.

Thank you for sharing your experience with other travelers. You mentioned a few things that are important to us. One is our guests get to meet the owners. That is not something you often experience when staying at hotels. We are a family owned and operated small business and we work hard to make sure every guest is comfortable.

The other thing you mentioned is that we are in the country, the Catskill Mountains. We are next to the 600,000 acre Catskill Park wildlife refuge. There are no bright lights, honking car horns or rumbling subways. You will see billions of stars on clear nights, there are wild animals and insects outside, the ground can get muddy on rainy days. So, while we strive to provide clean, comfortable rooms you may encounter a chipmunk ourside your door or hear an owl at night. It comes with the territory.

Thanks again for taking time to write this review. We hope to see you next year!

We looked for at well placed lodge in the Catskills and found Catskill Mtn. Lodge through friends. It is a well driven, familyfriendly lodge only a short distance from the waterfalls, the Tubes on Esopus River, Hunter Mountain and varius nature experiences and walks. The hostcouple, Al, and his wife,Cathy, are the most friendly and serviceminded people, who can advice You about the surrounding nature and experiences, and the restaurant, the Kindred Spirit, serves delicius and nonexpensive food. As a bonus, Al attracts his jazz-musician-friends from New York to come and play live jazz in different constellations fridays and saturdays in the restaurant. It is sublime, worldclass jazz, and we were thrilled to listen to jazz standards played by Grammy award winning musicians in an intimate and warm atmosphere. All in all we send our best to Al and Cathy and recommend the Catskill Mountain Lodge to other families.

Thank you Soren and family! We enjoyed your company very much. I still recall taking your son for a ride in a sportscar. Happy to see you arrived back home safely. All the best, Al & Kathy.

My family and I have been staying at Al & Kathy's Catskill Mountain Lodge for the last 2 years and we have never been disappointed. It's been our home away from home whenever we come up to the Catskills. First, let me say that if you are looking for all the amenities that you are used to in NYC or NJ, then stay in NYC or NJ. This place is special because it takes you back in time and pace a little, when people hung out on porches and enjoyed the fresh air and good conversation.
The rooms are spacious and clean. All the rooms in the main lodge have access to the outdoors with sliding glass doors and screens. It is situated in just the right spot for sightseeing locally. The pool, lively pub, and restaurant on the premises all add up to more relaxation and enjoyment after a day of traveling. It is so quiet at night, you will sleep like a baby! Kathy and Al are constantly working on the place and take pride in meeting your needs.
In a 50-mile radius, this is still our favorite spot!

We stayed here for one night and found it very welcoming and reasonably priced. The room was very large, with a small terrace leading of it. There is a pool, although our timing didn't work out for us to use it. Also free WIFI in Reception, and laundry facilities (useful when you are on a road trip). Cathy who ran it with her husband and daughter made us feel at home and have us lots of useful information about the area. There was a restaurant right next door, where Cathy turned up again as waitress. Lots of local beers and great food! We would go back again anytime, both to the Lodge and the area. It would have been nice if we could have got breakfast there too. I think it is only available at weekends.

Room Tip: Some rooms have terraces opening to the back of the hotel near the pool. Nice for relaxing after a d...

We were there for a reunion weekend. Kathy and Al have accommodated us for the past 2 reunions. Always a good time. My room was clean and comfortable and I loved having the coffee maker for the morning. The grounds are well kept and the pool area was great.
Our first night up there, we had dinner at the restaurant. Food was good and the music as well. They arranged for a buffet style breakfast the following morning and there was more than enough food, fresh squeezed juice and coffee.
My only complaints is that there wasn't a tv directory in the room nor a clock. Other than that..we had a great time and look forward to our next reunion in 2015!
